What is fair trade fashion?
Good working conditions and fair wages? A must for us at COSH! – even if this is unfortunately often not yet the reality in the fashion industry. So it’s all the better that there are more and more labels that are showing that it’s possible: There is another way!
To mark World Fair Trade Day, we are introducing you to brands that are making a difference with fairer production and genuine commitment.
Every second Saturday in May, the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation) celebrates ‘Fair Trade Day’ to raise awareness of the transformative power of the fair trade business model and its positive impact on the lives of people and communities. Each year, the organisation runs a campaign on a specific theme; the motto for 2025 is #BusinessRevolution!
Fair Trade vs. Fairtrade
But first… Fair Trade is a widely used term, but do you know exactly what it means? The term can have two different meanings:
Dedicated offers a diverse selection for men and women of all ages – and doesn’t just think about style, but also about the environment. From start to finish, attention is paid to the impact of production. The colourful designs are inspired by nature and reflect this attention to detail. Dedicated only uses Fairtrade-certified organic cotton or other more sustainable materials such as Tencel. The brand does not use any pesticides or chemical fertilisers when growing cotton. The garments are produced by four GOTS-certified manufacturers in China and India – under conditions that ensure greater safety and fairer wages for people along the supply chain.
Are you wondering where you can buy fairer traded clothing from Dedicated? In Germany, you can find the brand at roberta. in Düsseldorf, Him & Laya in Hamburg and in Berlin at HIT-IN.TV, supermarché, Slow Friday and kleidsam.
In Belgium, you can find the brand in Antwerp at MOOSE in the CITY, Supergoods and HOST. Dedicated is also available at Freedom in Aalst and Dendermonde. Other points of sale are Harvest Club in Leuven, Sessa in Hasselt and Inslag in Ghent.
In the Netherlands, you can buy the collection at Tally-Ho Amsterdam and BrandMission in Amsterdam, as well as at Sophie Stone in Utrecht!
In addition to fair trade fashion, are you also looking for fairer traded bed linen or bath linen? At Kalani you will find towels and duvet covers made from 100% Fairtrade organic cotton. The brand buys its cotton directly from the farmers and pays them 13.5% more than the average selling price. This ensures that the farmers receive a fairer price for their cotton.
