The store Jyoti – Fair Works offers a great selection of fair fashion for people of all body types with a focus on quality, sustainability and timelessness. Find beautiful dresses, and skirts in different lengths and materials, trousers, shorts, cool jumpsuits and various blouses, shirts and jackets. Everything is made from natural fibres like organic cotton, modal or peace-silk. Their own collection is complimented by artisan jewellery, fair trade Peruvian knitwear pieces, accessories and outstanding home textiles.
Hearing about the story of Jyoti – Fair Works is heart-warming and inspiring! It is the story of an enthusiastic law student trying to find solutions for poor women in India. Founder Jeanine put her heart and soul into the brand and store, creating a fair, ecological and social fashion business that is an amazing example of how a different fashion industry is possible.
Jyoti – Fair Works is working with 3 sewing workshops in India that are connected with women-led NGOs. The brand directly pays a monthly salary to 40 women, giving them a stable income throughout the year, which is unfortunately not very common in the fashion industry. The women are trained, have access to health care, work during hours that allow them to take care of their family, can attend seminars on employment rights and English sessions.
»We will probably not be able to change the textile industry by ourselves. But we can serve as a positive example by showing that it can be done differently, better, more justly. We can be an inspiration for other companies and an alternative for our customers. And we can provide fifteen (now 40!) women in India with a livelihood. We think that is already quite an achievement.«
