Unique, locally made jewellery from textile
Amsterdam jewellery designer Iris Nijenhuis makes unique jewellery from textiles. Her innovative designs are modular, which means that the different pieces of textile are put together like a puzzle, without fasteners such as glue. The pieces of textile are cut with a laser cutter and then put together by Iris herself. The entire design and production process takes place in her atelier in the centre of Amsterdam.
Iris Nijenhuis doesn’t have her own shop, but you can visit her studio in Amsterdam by appointment. Make an appointment in advance via her website.
Vintage inspired (new) women’s clothing
Step into King Louie’s store in the 9 Streets of Amsterdam and find a colourful and feminine outfit! King Louie has been around since the 1980s and that vintage inspiration can still be seen in their new collections. Are you a denim lover? Then this store is for you! BOAS Vintage Kalverstraat is the place where you can find unique, upcycled items from discarded jeans, jackets and other vintage denim clothing. Platform where crafts and music weave a story together
Knits and Notes is a unique initiative where creativity, sustainability and community converge. What began as a spontaneous knitting moment in a bar has grown over the past two years into a vibrant foundation that connects textile crafts with music, film and storytelling. Here, the tranquility of handicraft meets the rhythm of music — in workshops, jam sessions and events that bring young and old together. Knitting, crochet and upcycling are innovatively combined with female DJs, lectures on sustainability and intimate performances. Everything is done with second-hand materials and a passion for craftsmanship. Curious about Knits and Notes’ upcoming events in Amsterdam? Keep an eye on the calendar.
