Did you know that on average 79% of the clothes in your wardrobe remain unworn? And that only 24% of discarded textiles are correctly donated for reuse or recycling?
You can help change this! So don’t throw your textiles in the rubbish, because often they can still be put to a new use.
Are there clothes in your wardrobe that you just don’t wear (any more)? Then it might be time to get them fixed so you can enjoy it again. If repair no longer makes your love for the garment blossom, say goodbye to it.
But, how do you do that in Amsterdam?
If your clothes still look great and have a second breath of life in them then give them away, swap them at The Swapshop or donate them to your local thrift shop, such as ReShare Store, De Lokatie noord 1, noord 2 or oost, Modestraat and Weggeefwinkel New Life West.
Did you know that you can also sell your clothes in these great shops in Amsterdam? For example De Ruilhoek, garment and Studio Wolf. You can sell and buy second hand children’s clothes at these shops: Otis en de wolf, Old West, Jofel Amsterdam, Ziggy + Lucy, Quinnie’s and ROOKIE.
In the centre of Amsterdam you can hand in your textiles at Denim City and The Swapshop.
Looking to give a jumper, jeans or denim jacket a new life? Bring them in to Rambler Studios and who knows, they might be upcycled into a cool jacket or another item of street style clothing!
NUTT Amsterdam will also gladly give your clothes a second life! NUTT doesn’t see old clothes as waste but as valuable raw material to be reused with love in their NUTT-Blazers, for example. Head to their website to find out how to donate your clothes to them.
You can also deposit your clothes in a bin for textiles which you will be able to recognise as official containers of the municipality by their purple sticker. Ensure your textiles are clear and dry then put them into a sealed plastic bag, and take the bag to your closest bin. The textile bins are available 24/7.
Want to find out what you can and cannot put in the textile bin? Read the official information from the municipality of Amsterdam here.
Are you looking for a drop-off point or textile bin? This map shows you all the locations.
Looking for a drop-off point or textile container near you? On the COSH! map you can easily select ‘Show textile donation points’, or go to the Amsterdam map to find a location near you.
