From Berlin to Barcelona: 22 Upcycling Designers You Should Know
- COSH! Member Publicity

- Recycle
This guide rounds up jewellery designers, ateliers and goldsmiths in Düsseldorf who work in a more sustainable way. They have locally made pieces, recycled or certified precious metals, repair and resizing services, small-batch production, and transparent sourcing.
We’ll highlight what each creator does well (from recycled silver/gold to Fairmined/Fairtrade options, lab-grown stones, or repairs & upcycling) so you can choose what aligns with your values.
This article is part of our Düsseldorf Guide series. If you’re mapping out a full slow-shopping day, don’t miss:
Atelier Goldfisch
Atelier Goldfisch is particularly known for transforming old (heirloom) pieces into new favourites. Sometimes a new clasp is enough, sometimes they rethread or recombine, sometimes they melt down and recast.
Of course, they also create new pieces that are easy to combine and can best be described as modern with round silhouettes in mind.
Around 95% of the gold used comes from recycled sources. Existing diamonds and coloured gemstones are also reused in new settings.
Kleine Verzierung:
Atelier Kleine Verzierung in Düsseldorf stands for bespoke jewellery by Katja Voscht. She makes every piece herself — truly a one-woman business. The studio creates custom pieces in gold, silver or platinum. The portfolio also includes gold-plated silver, citrine pendants, rings with chalcedony or rose quartz, and keepsakes incorporating horsehair. She sources most materials from suppliers in Germany and Denmark and maintains direct contact with them.
There are also workshops where you can design your own bracelet, for example, or learn the basics of wax carving.
Discover Kleine Verzierung online or at the studio.
GALERIE CEBRA
GALERIE CEBRA, located in the historic city centre of Düsseldorf, presents new themed exhibitions every six to eight weeks. The space serves as an exhibition area and a sales outlet for unique jewellery pieces, as well as a contact point for repairs. Gallery owner Anemone Tontsch is an artist who focuses on upcycling and recycling in her projects, without making sweeping environmental promises.
Two large shop windows provide an insight around the clock. On around 75 square metres, the works of over 200 jewellery designers and artists from Germany and abroad can be seen, ranging from fine to atypical materials and styles, from clear to playful.
Moritz Wenz
Moritz Wenz is a Düsseldorf-based studio that combines craftsmanship with contemporary design. The studio works with small businesses and family-run companies, manufacturing mainly in Germany, with individual pieces made in Italy. Jewellery design is centred in Pforzheim, with precious metals and leather mainly sourced from there and other German suppliers. The studio uses gold, silver, pearls and vegetable-tanned cowhide. Even the packaging is plastic-free, largely made from recycled paper sourced from Nuremberg. Repairs are, of course, also possible.
They have both an online shop as well as a store in Düsseldorf
related by objects
related by objects is a jewellery manufactory from Düsseldorf that is run entirely by women. They met during their studies and now create minimalist jewellery suitable for everyday wear directly in their studio in Düsseldorf.
They also use recycled gold and silver, which is a more sustainable option. Find out why here.
You can find related by objects online, in the studio and also in the COSH! pop-up in Berlin until October 2025.
202 EDITIONS
202 EDITIONS is a jewellery label from Düsseldorf that sets itself apart from other labels with minimalist and timeless designs. In order to avoid overproduction and to be better able to respond to current demand, the pieces are only produced in very limited numbers.
Recycled precious metals from German refineries are used and a made-to-order principle is applied. This means that the individual pieces of jewellery are generally only produced when someone orders them.
There is both an online shop and a shop in Friedrichsstadt.
ERDEN
ERDEN is Frieda’s goldsmith’s workshop in Düsseldorf-Flingern. After ten years of professional experience, she has opened her own studio where she produces timeless pieces by hand. She works with gold and silver, often from recycled sources, and carefully selected gemstones; occasionally, acrylic or wood remnants are also used. The materials used come from traceable suppliers, and some suppliers work with voluntary sustainability certificates. She also offers a repair service so that favourite pieces can be carried on. The aim is to create unique pieces that look good and feel comfortable in everyday life.
You can also find her products online, in her online shop
