While the big retail companies and fashion chains are doing everything they can to drive their customers (even more) into a shopping frenzy during Black Friday, at BlueCity, we’re hitting the big RESET button this weekend. Research from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences reveals that the average Dutch person has around 173 clothing items in their wardrobe, of which about 50 items have remained unused for over a year. We believe that the Black Friday weekend is the perfect time to dig through that full closet and, instead of buying a lot of new clothes and gifts, search for a sustainable alternative. The Swapshop Swap Clothes Instead of Buying New
The clothing industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, contributing to over 10% of global CO2 emissions. At the same time, we discard about 17 kilograms of textiles per person annually. It’s time for a change. BlueCity encourages Rotterdam residents to dive into their closets and come for a clothing swap. Pack your men’s and women’s clothing in good condition (items that could still make someone else happy) and bring them to BlueCity on Saturday, November 25th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The better the quality, the more Swaps (points) you’ll receive for the clothing item. The number of swaps you get per item is 2, 5, 10, or 15 Swaps.
