Ethical
The GOTS organic cotton certification sets requirements for working conditions and fair wages at the production stage. Since Cloud 9 works with this certification they can guarantee ethical working conditions.
Where the fabrics are designed depends on where the designer lives, usually it is in the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom. Then the fabrics are made and dyed or printed in South Korea and Pakistan, this is reflected in the GOTS inspection certificates, these certificates are attached for each collection on the website. On those certificates there are also names of the last producer of the product but it is unclear what this producer was used for and how many suppliers there are. One of the certificates stated that the untreated cotton comes from India, it is not clear if all the cotton of this brand comes from there. In any case, it means that the textile has traveled quite a distance around the world before ending up under your sewing machine.
Cloud 9 says they work closely with factories that are committed to ethical and responsible behavior. By this they mean that the factories respect the rights of all individuals, are committed to sustainable social compliance and feel responsible for the environment.
Materials
In addition to working exclusively with GOTS-certified organic cotton, Cloud 9 also uses environmentally responsible dyes to print and dye their textiles.
Circular Economy
The brand itself does not work with recycled fabrics but because all fabrics are made of 100% cotton (a mono material therefore) they can be easily recycled. So they can get a second life when your child has outgrown the homemade pants and you yourself can’t see a way to reuse them.
Slow fashion
Cloud 9’s collections are designed by designers with backgrounds from all over the world, yet they have something in common, the prints are playful, colorful and timeless. Throughout the fabric collection there are fun messages contained, such as in the ‘‘Universal love’ collection, which is all about giving each other strength and support. This collection was designed by Elizabeth Olwen, a Canadian pattern designer living in Portugal.
