The Organic Company shares little information about their manufacturing locations. Some of the products are made in Portugal, such as the reusable makeup pads. Manufacturers based in Europe must follow the strict labor rules and laws of the European Union. Thus, we can assume that production takes place in ethical social conditions. However, it is not known where the other products are made.

The brand is also fully GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified. This is an organization that controls the origin of organic cotton, as well as the use of chemicals and the social conditions during the production process. Because of the independent checks of GOTS, we know that the products are made in safe working conditions and with fair wages.

The brand is called The Organic Company for a reason! All cotton is organic and has been GOTS certified since 2010. Growing organic cotton requires less irrigation water than conventional cotton. All chemicals such as pesticides, insecticides and artificial fertilizers are banned. Harmful chemicals are also banned during the further production process of the textile. So you can be sure that your purchase is safe to use and contains no toxins or heavy metals.

Because all products are made of 100% organic cotton, the brand can be considered highly circular. Mono-materials are easier to recycle than material blends. A mono-material consists of only one material, for example 100% cotton. A blend or mixture of different materials is more difficult to recycle because the different materials are difficult to separate. Moreover, a natural and chemical-free material such as organic cotton is biodegradable after use!

Because not much information is known about the different production locations, it is difficult to estimate the length of this brand’s supply chain. The products are designed in Denmark. The cotton probably comes from outside Europe, and the production itself probably happens again within Europe (including in Portugal). It is likely that The Organic Company has a fairly short supply chain.

The Organic Company uses only organic cotton, so the brand is animal-friendly and completely vegan. Because chemicals are banned from growing and producing organic cotton, it has a positive effect on the environment and ecosystems surrounding the cotton plantations.
