In order to ensure that all their clothing is produced in a fair manner, Iron Roots collaborates with local European production factories in Portugal and Greece. These factories are GOTS and SMETA certified, and Iron Roots maintains a close relationship with them, visiting them regularly.

However, since they are still a small company, it is not possible for them to visit all the companies in the whole supply chain, but this is something that they aim to do in the future.

They make activewear from fabrics that don’t contain plastics.

They only work with raw materials of natural origin, which don’t need as harsh cleaning treatments as other, synthetic sportswear.

These natural materials include hemp, Tencel Lyocell and modal, sourced from European FSC-certified forests, and organic cotton certified by GOTS. Each material has its own unique advantages and they source them all in Europe.

While Iron Roots’ main goal is to design products that can last a lifetime, they understand that products eventually wear out, especially due to rigorous physical activity. To ensure that their products don’t end up in landfills, the company allows customers to return their worn-out Iron Roots athletic apparel for free. In return, customers receive a 20% discount for their next order.

This initiative not only encourages responsible disposal but also contributes to a sustainable cycle. Iron Roots collects these worn-out items and, when the minimum volume set by their recycling partner is reached, recycles them into new athletic apparel.

Furthermore, they minimize textile waste in multiple ways. One method involves designing products to be made from a single fabric, by maximizing cutting efficiency and in some cases, they even use the same fabric for multiple products.

Their products are designed at their headquarters in The Netherlands and produced in Portugal and Greece to ensure sustainability, responsible sourcing, and ethical production. 

Additionally, they source all their raw materials, yarns, and fabrics from European countries and use trucks for shipping in their supply chain, thereby reducing their carbon emissions.

Furthermore, to compensate for their impact, they collaborate with third parties that calculate their environmental footprint and offset it accordingly. They offset all carbon emissions arising from shipping within their supply chain.

All of Iron Roots’ fabrics are plant-based, which means that their sportswear is completely vegan.

They don’t work with seasonal collections, so they avoid overproduction.

They design products with a timeless touch, so that people can wear them for years and years to come. Moreover, they only use high-quality materials and fabrics, so that the products last a long time.
