Looking for a stylish winter jacket that is also user-friendly? Then you've come to the right place with the qualitative design outdoor brand Embassy of Bricks and Logs. We at COSH are huge fans of their beautiful silhouettes, sustainable materials and excellent functionality.
Founders Niki Vatheuer and Eric Mirbach started this German brand in 2015. At that time, Niki Vatheuer already had 20 years of experience in the fashion industry and Eric Mirbach was creative director of the ethical fashion and lifestyle magazine Vegan Good Life. Together with Niko's wife Anna, an internationally published fashion photographer, the small design team started working in Germany. The result is a quality brand with beautiful collections that also produces as sustainably as possible.
The FW 2020 is made of 93-95% recycled and/or sustainable materials. A major milestone for the brand, who first set a goal of having 80% of their production made of recycled materials by 2020. The brand is always on the lookout for new finds, such as new materials, and is happy to respond to the changing demand to offer you the most sustainable jacket possible.
In 2019, the team in China developed their own fill material 'E100', this faux down material is made from recycled PET bottles from the oceans. Later on, the brand switched to post-consumer recycled PET bottles from local landfills as new regulations mean there is less and less plastic in China's waterways. A win for the environment!
For the FW 2020 collection, the fill material has been further adapted so that it is even warmer and thicker, as well as less fragile making it easier to wash than down made from animal feathers
Water resistant outer fabric:
Most of the outer fabrics are Bluesign certified, so no harmful substances in your jacket! Several fast fashion brands use harmful chemicals to make the outer fabric water resistant or animal products like beeswax, this is not the case with this vegan brand! For the FW collection 2020 recycled Embassy or Bricks and Logs are the most used outer fabric for the production of new coats. A big step in the right direction!
The brand has developed a future-fur material from 100% recycled PET bottles, the material also feels like real fur. The brand prefers 'future-fur' as terminology instead of fake-fur, because otherwise it seems like it is compromising on quality, whereas with the coats from Embassy of Bricks and Logs it is just the opposite!
The lining: the mesh lining of Embassy jackets is not yet made of recycled materials, but it is Oekotex certified. All other components in the lining are made of 100% recycled polyester.
All accessories in the jackets (zips, snap fasteners, eyelets, etc.) are Bluesign certified. So you can be sure that no harmful materials are used in your warm stylish winter coat.
The jackets are designed in Germany and made in China under good working conditions. The team only works directly with small production suppliers and family businesses that want to grow together. Thanks to their small-business approach, the brand is aware of every step in the production process. No outsourcing, no secret subcontracting. Embassy of Bricks and Logs regularly visit their partners to ensure that employees receive fair wages and can work in safety.
Embassy of Bricks and Logs is a vegan company! Super, so no animal materials in the warm jackets. Besides being ethical, it is also an ecological choice for the German company. Today, the agricultural sector is the biggest contributor to global warming of all sectors. Wool, for example, emits the highest amount of greenhouse gases of all materials, and also requires large amounts of valuable land. Cattle breeding makes a huge claim on the land and the climate, so it is a sustainable choice for Embassy of Bricks and Logs to opt for 100% vegan production.
The brand works closely with the non-profit organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to ensure that the entire collection is PETA-approved vegan.
The warm jackets at Embassy of Bricks and Logs are designed to last. The brand is fighting against the fast fashion movement.
In addition, Embassy of Bricks and Logs uses renewable energy sources in their offices in Germany. All the packaging is also 90% recyclable. To compensate the rest of the CO2, the brand works together with One Tree Planted who plant trees in North America, South America, Africa and Asia. to plant trees.
The high-quality fabrics come from South Korea. Most materials are purchased from certified manufacturers (eco-tex or blue sign), such as YKK, Thermore and many others.
The cardboard boxes are made in Poland.
The German brand is honest about the fact that some labour processes in China do not yet meet their high ethical standards, they see this as an opportunity to learn together with the manufacturers and adjust their production process. The small driven team behind Embassy of Bricks and Logs is motivated to develop long lasting relationships with their partners. The outdoor clothing brand wants to be certified in order to verify their ethical standards.
Did you know that many small companies often cannot afford the expensive certifications, despite the fact that they can guarantee good working conditions?
