The ANTWRP collections are designed at its Belgian headquarters. The brand also has the ‘I buy Belgian’ label, proving that the creative process takes place in Belgium.
This trendy men’s brand works with various production partners to produce the clothes. To make sure this is done in good working conditions and that fair wages are paid, ANTWRP works as much as possible with European manufacturers. A small part of the collection is produced outside Europe. To ensure good working conditions here, ANTWRP has a close connection with the manufacturer, whose parent company is based in Belgium.
Several products, such as the T‑shirts, have GOTS certification. About these products, you can be sure that they are ethically produced. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is an organisation that controls the use of organic cotton. It also checks the working conditions at the manufacturer. Only when the manufacturer meets all standards can a product be given the GOTS label.
Much of the ANTWRP collection is made from organic cotton. ANTWRP has the GOTS certificate for this. In addition to social conditions, this certificate also controls the use of chemicals throughout the production process. Organic cotton uses much less irrigation water and chemicals than conventional cotton, making it a more sustainable choice.
ANTWRP also uses synthetic materials in their clothes, for example, in sweatshirts and jumpers. For example, the brand uses recycled polyester that is certified by the Global Recycle Standard (GRS). This means that at least 20% of the material used must be recycled, either cotton or polyester. In addition, polyacrylic and polyester are also used in some jumpers.
Transparency and circularity often go hand in hand. Because ANTWRP shares little information via its website, it is harder to ascertain how circular the clothing is. COSH! spoke with ANTWRP where the brand was able to inform us that they are working on this transparency behind the scenes and that this will change soon!
When a garment is made from a mono-material, for example, 100% cotton, it is easier to recycle than a blend of different materials. This is the case with much of the ANTWRP collection; for example, all T‑shirts are made from 100% organic cotton. Garments made entirely from natural materials (such as cotton or linen) are biodegradable when they contain no chemicals, prints or dyes.
ANTWRP also uses various recycled materials in their collection, such as recycled cotton and recycled polyester. This makes ANTWRP more circular!
ANTWRP has a fairly short supply chain as a large proportion of their manufacturing partners are based in Europe. This ensures that the brand has direct contact with the manufacturers, and your purchase does not have to travel long distances to you!
ANTWRP uses mostly natural materials in their collection, with a small proportion including synthetic materials. So these clothes are completely vegan!
A few jumpers do contain a small percentage of wool. Unfortunately, the brand has no information on the origin of this wool, so we cannot form a picture of its animal welfare.
ANTWRP’s collections often consist of basics. Simple shirts and jumpers in striking colour combinations and graphic prints that are easy to combine in your wardrobe. The brand combines influences from the 80s and 90s in a mix of sports, culture and futurism with a vintage touch.
The sporty and contemporary clothes are made of high-quality materials. Together with a timeless design, this ensures a longer life for your purchase.
ANTWRP is working to improve transparency on its website. The brand did engage with COSH! and shared a lot of information with us, so they still scored well on transparency.
