A hotel bedsheet. A men’s shirt. A silk tie. A wool blanket found at a second-hand market. Four of the labels at COSH! The Future of Fashion Circular Hub start with materials like these, and that is one reason why the word circular is in the name. Circular, here, means starting with what already exists, keeping materials in the loop, and promoting longevity, quality, and craftsmanship. The hub sits at Brug 4 in the city centre of Bruges and is run by COSH!, the platform that helps shoppers find independent fashion stores and makers across Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Nine brands from Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany are on display, so visitors can see up close what circular fashion looks like in practice.
Each of the four upcycling labels works in its own way, with its own materials. Beverly Berlin, the label of designer and maker Ulla Heinz, sews one-off bags, clothing and accessories in Berlin-Kreuzberg from second-hand men’s shirts, ties and moving blankets. Studio Wunderbar was started in the Netherlands by costume designer Martina, who makes coats from preloved wool blankets, deadstock upholstery fabric and vintage tablecloths. Most coats come with a small repair patch cut from the same blankets, so you can mend a hole rather than end the coat’s life. Belgian label Joseffa turns pre-loved cotton men’s shirts into loungewear and sleepwear, alongside T‑shirts and trousers made from deadstock fabric. Frii completes the upcycling selection with its own approach to giving unused hotel cotton bedsheets a new purpose.
But not everything in the hub is upcycled. Wolvis makes fine knitwear in merino wool, while Tuya Sar has pieces from merino and yak wool, a fibre valued for its warmth and softness. Jewellery comes from two makers: Fien Demuynck, who works with great care and passion on her stylish, timeless collection, and Tezoro Atelier, whose colourful designs are handmade by Colombian artisans using traditional bead techniques. For the bathroom shelf, Nature Bar offers plastic-free cosmetics. These brands share small-scale production and makers who can explain where their materials come from.
Looking for upcycled fashion, merino knitwear or handmade jewellery in Bruges? The Circular Hub at Brug 4 is open most days from 10:00 to 18:00, with extra openings on special days, so it is worth checking the COSH! store page before a visit. Everyone is welcome to come in, browse, try things on and ask how each piece was made. The team is happy to explain what makes a piece circular and what does not. That makes the hub as much a place to discover what circular fashion means as a place to shop.
