PRODUCTION LOCATIONS
- Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands
WORKING CONDITIONS & WAGES
All products are made personally by founder Martina in her atelier in the Netherlands, ensuring complete transparency and traceability of production.
Materials are sourced through secondhand shops, online platforms, and private donations, which means traditional supplier relationships are entirely absent. Exclusively local production in the Netherlands helps minimise the carbon footprint.
MATERIALS
- Preloved & vintage materials
- Deadstock fabrics
- Lining made from cotton satin (new, preferably deadstock)
Read more here about whether deadstock is a sustainable solution for the textile industry.
PACKAGING
- The brand uses paper bags for shipping. For international shipments, the paper bags are additionally wrapped in transparent, reused plastic bags.
- The brand has no official supply chain in the traditional sense. Materials are sourced from secondhand sources, and notions and lining are purchased independently from local wholesalers.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
Since Studio Wunderbar works exclusively with existing, found materials and does not produce new fabrics, many of these processes are fundamentally eliminated. The use of preloved and deadstock materials means no new dyeing, printing, or bleaching processes are required, and water consumption as well as the use of chemicals in material production are avoided entirely.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
Since Studio Wunderbar works exclusively with found preloved and deadstock materials, products typically consist of mixed materials, meaning the finished products are more difficult to recycle at the end of their lifecycle. Nevertheless, the reuse of existing fabrics is a positive step, as it conserves valuable resources and reduces textile waste.
Each coat comes with a piece of cedarwood that can be placed on the hanger to keep moths away. Every coat made after 2024 is delivered with a small repair patch, a spare piece made from the wool blankets used, containing all the colours of that particular coat, so minor damage such as holes can be mended. No take-back or send-in repair service exists.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELL
The brand does not offer a traditional repair service where customers can send in their coats. Instead, every coat made after 2024 comes with a repair patch.
DISTANCE & COMPLEXITY OF SUPPLY CHAIN
- Production and headquarters are both located in the Netherlands.
TRANSPORT
- Since Studio Wunderbar has no traditional supply chain and all materials are sourced locally in the Netherlands, transport-related CO₂ emissions within the supply chain are minimal.
- Studio Wunderbar ships with local postal service providers.
- Wool (from vintage blankets and deadstock fabrics)
The wool comes exclusively from already-used, found materials such as vintage blankets and deadstock fabrics. No direct sourcing of raw wool takes place.
PRODUCT DESIGN
Product categories include coats, kimonos, tops, and bags.
Since every piece is a handcrafted one-of-a-kind and available materials determine production, the offering is naturally very limited.
SLOW FASHION PROCESSES
Since every piece is unique and available materials determine production, new pieces appear at irregular intervals as individual drops, with no fixed collection schedule.
PRODUCT TRANSPRENCY
On product pages, Studio Wunderbar communicates the material composition, the origin of the materials used, and the country of production. Each product description also tells the story of the material in detail. Since all pieces are made personally by the founder in her atelier in the Netherlands, the origin of every product is fully traceable. Buyers know exactly where and by whom their piece was made.
PROCESS TRANSPRENCY
Since all products are made exclusively in the founder’s own atelier in the Netherlands, buyers can clearly understand where and how their product was created. No external suppliers or complex supply chains exist.
