Working Conditions & living wages
For its clothing collection, KUMI works with a local partner in Mallorca who supplies the brand with garments from the certified manufacturer Stanley/Stella and also carries out all printing and embroidery in its own facility on site.
Due to the close proximity, KUMI maintains regular personal contact with its supplier and visits the production facility every time a new design is created or an order is placed. The exclusive collaboration with this single partner makes it easier for the brand to oversee the production processes.
Since both KUMI and the partner are based in Spain, national labour laws and safety regulations apply.
The garments supplied by Stanley/Stella are GOTS, Oeko-Tex and Fair Wear certified, confirming that they are produced in compliance with recognised social and environmental standards.
KUMI does not own any production facilities itself but works exclusively with certified and reliable partners.
Materials
- Organic Cotton
- Recycled Polyester
KUMI’s clothing line is made from organic cotton and recycled polyester, but how sustainable are these materials? Read the articles for a deeper insight.
Packaging
The brand’s commitment to more environmentally friendly practices extends to its packaging. All orders are shipped in recycled boxes sealed with non-toxic, water-activated tape that uses soy-based inks. Additional packaging components, including tissue paper, hangtags, postcards, and stickers, are also made from recycled and home-compostable materials, further demonstrating KUMI’s dedication to minimizing its environmental footprint.
Water usage & chemicals
KUMI uses only garments from Stanley/Stella for its clothing line, a manufacturer known for its use of certified organic and recycled materials. Stanley/Stella holds multiple independent certifications, including from the Fair Wear Foundation, and meets recognised standards throughout its supply chain for efficient water use and more responsible chemical management. These standards cover the organic cultivation of fibres, the restricted use of harmful substances, and the reduction of environmental impact.
Printing and embroidery are carried out exclusively by KUMI’s partner in their local facility in Mallorca. No harmful dyes or processes are used, and the work complies with strict EU regulations on chemicals and workplace safety.
As the products are predominantly made from natural fibres, the risk of microplastic release is low.
Circular product design
KUMI manufactures shoes and clothing. Some of their products are made of monomaterial garments, but most of them are made from a mix of different materials, such as organic cotton with recycled polyester, making it difficult to recycle the products after use.
KUMI consciously designs to achieve zero waste in the manufacture of its products and makes efforts to raise awareness among its customers to extend the life span of the products.
Circular business models
KUMI currently does not offer a repair service or a take-back programme for worn or used garments. Other circular business models, such as rental or resale, are also not implemented for the clothing line at present. However, working with certified and reliable partners helps ensure the production of durable products that can be used over a longer period of time.
Distance & complexity of the supply chain

Transportation
KUMI operates its clothing production through a local workshop in Mallorca, where the brand’s HQ and founders reside. This strategic choice significantly reduces transportation emissions associated with the movement of goods, as the proximity minimizes the need for involving air or sea freight.
KUMI offers vegan apparel. All its materials are free of animal products.
One of the pillars of the brand is to help achieve a society where the rights of animals are respected so that they can have a dignified life, free of exploitation, mistreatment and experimentation.
For this reason, they collaborate with the Fundación para el Asesoramiento y Acción en Defensa de los Animales (FAADA) so that they can continue with their mission to achieve a society where coexistence between all living beings is based on respect, and they also collaborate with La Lliga per a la Protecció d’Animals i Plantes de Barcelona, a sanctuary that takes in abandoned, homeless and/or mistreated animals until they find the perfect family to spend the rest of their lives with.
Product design
KUMI embraces the principles of slow fashion with its collection of basic, neutral, and timeless styles designed to withstand the fast-changing trends of the fashion industry. The collection includes versatile pieces for both women and men.
Slow fashion processes
The brand’s commitment to more sustainability is evident in its production strategy; some designs are never restocked, which helps to avoid overproduction and keeps clothes from ending up in landfills.
Aware of the growing issues related to mass production and consumption in the fashion industry, KUMI actively chooses to produce on demand. This approach allows for the creation of small quantities of high-quality clothing and footwear.
Transparency on product
The product pages for KUMI provide details about the materials, product features, care instructions, design details and general information about where the product was made.
However, they do not offer detailed traceability, such as the specific factory or production facility where an individual item was made.
Transparency on processes
KUMI is recognized for its transparency in its operations and manufacturing processes. The brand has openly communicated with the COSH! team, providing detailed insights into their production practices. This level of openness not only fosters trust with consumers but also sets a standard in the fashion industry for transparency. That being said, the transparency could be taken a few steps further with added clarification regarding some materials, as well as transportation methods.
Conclusion
KUMI creates basic, neutral, and timeless pieces that follow slow fashion principles. By producing on demand and using more sustainable materials, the brand shows its commitment to more ethical practices and caring for the environment.
