WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES 

Mademoiselle YéYé is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified. This helps to ensure ethical production that is free from exploitation and child labour, as everything from raw material extraction to packaging is monitored according to high standards. 

MATERIALS 

• Organic cotton
• Polyester 
• Recycled polyester 
• Viscose
• Elastane 

Mademoiselle YéYé uses GOTS certified organic cotton for many of their products. This is a more sustainable alternative to traditional cotton, as it is grown without harmful chemicals or pesticides, and with less water. 

Other products are made from Lenzing ECOVERO viscose, which is made from wood pulp that is sourced from certified and controlled sources. 

Mademoiselle YéYé does, however, offer some items made from polyester, and recycled polyester. Whilst recycled polyester still has an environmental impact, it is preferable to traditional polyester as it reduces the brand’s use of raw materials. Where elastane is used, it is always in very small percentages. 

PACKAGING 

Mademoiselle YéYé does not disclose what packaging materials they use in their supply chain or for e‑commerce. 

WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS 

Whilst Mademoiselle YéYé does not specify what measures they have taken to reduce their water or chemical usage, their material choices help to reduce their environmental impact. Organic cotton requires less water to grow than traditional cotton, and is produced without any harmful chemicals or pesticides. Additionally, Mademoiselle YéYé uses Lenzing ECOVERO viscose, which is produced with significantly less water than traditional viscose. 

Unfortunately some of Mademoiselle YéYé’s products are made with polyester, and this is not always recycled. Polyester sheds microplastics when washed, contributing to water pollution. Additionally, polyester is made using refined petroleum, and therefore has a significant environmental impact. 

CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN 

Mademoiselle YéYé’s pieces are mostly monomaterials, increasing the likelihood that they can be recycled. However, some pieces are material blends and contain smaller percentages of elastane. Whilst this is likely to increase the performance of these garments, it does mean that they are more likely to end up as waste at the end of their lifespans. 

CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS 

Mademoiselle YéYé does not currently share any circular business models on their website, such as a return or repair scheme. An initiative such as this would help to keep their products out of landfills for longer. 

DISTANCE & COMPLEXITY OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN

Mademoiselle YéYé’s supply chain is relatively simple, as their production takes place entirely in Turkey. However, as the brand does not disclose where they source their raw materials from, the length and complexity of their supply chain cannot be determined accurately. 

The brand offers shipping to Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The associated transportation emissions are therefore likely to be high. 

TRANSPORTATION 

Mademoiselle YéYé does not provide detailed information about their transportation methods, but the product pages state ​‘land transportation’. Whilst the associated emissions from this cannot be determined, by avoiding air transportation the brand’s environmental footprint is smaller. 

Mademoiselle YéYé is proudly vegan, avoiding any materials of animal origin. 

PRODUCT DESIGN

Mademoiselle YéYé states that their pieces are designed so that they can be worn for more than one season, and can flatter every figure type. This helps to ensure that their products will be kept in use for longer. In particular, the brand highlights their denim jacket, which they state is a real classic, that is always on trend, and will last you up to 20 years. 

The brand also promotes the idea of a capsule wardrobe, which they explain should contain basics with timeless cuts and designs. They also state that the individual items of clothing should be made from high-quality materials, and should be cared for more carefully and be more appreciated. 

To help ensure that their products are treasured for longer, Mademoiselle YéYé provides care instructions on the product pages of every garment.

Mademoiselle YéYé does not produce made to order products, and they participate in sales seasons, which suggests that they don’t necessarily follow slow fashion principles.

The product pages on Mademoiselle YéYé’s website clearly state what material each product is made from, and the production country. This transparency ensures that you’ll always know where your specific purchase was produced.

Mademoiselle YéYé shares limited information about their processes, making it difficult to determine their true sustainability efforts. The brand does not disclose where they source their raw materials from, and does not publish an annual report on their social or environmental impact. They do however share their production country, and as they are GOTS certified we can be assured that they implement more sustainable practices.
