Locally made clothing from traditional Javanese batik
Do you love prints such as the beautiful traditional batik prints from Indonesia? Batik is an age-old Javanese technique for applying motifs to fabrics. The Amsterdam brand Guave brings this traditional beauty to life with a modern twist. They do this by having all batik fabrics made in a fairer and traditional way in Indonesia, so that this authentic craft is preserved. The clothing itself is made in their own atelier in Amsterdam, or at other ateliers in the Netherlands. Curious about this design and production process? You can visit Guave’s studio in Amsterdam West by appointment.
Colourful, locally made unisex clothing
An explosion of colours and prints, this is how to describe the Amsterdam based brand Logocomo best. Designer and local maker Romy uses a lot of bold, colourful prints and bright colours, and designs her collections so that they are gender neutral and timeless. She mainly uses deadstock or second-hand clothing as her materials, which she recycles or upcycles into new garments. How cool: Logocomo also had a collaboration with the Kledingbank Rotterdam to give discarded clothing a longer life. Curious about the collection? Discover her latest collections online. You can also visit the atelier where Romy makes her collections in Amsterdam West by appointment.
Sewing cafe and creative hub for local makers
Looking for a creative place where you can (learn to) make your own clothes? Then De Steek in Amsterdam-West is the place for you! De Steek is a cosy sewing café founded by designer Natalie de Koning. Here you can attend sewing classes, workshops and courses, or you can get started on your own by renting a space and making use of all the machines and materials in the workshop. A real creative environment where you’ll be instantly inspired! Also nice: De Steek recently opened a second location in Amsterdam Oost.
Local fashion brand with a social and circular makers atelier
A contemporary, modern and trendy clothing brand that puts their makers in the spotlight, how cool is that? At the Amsterdam brand New Optimist you can see with your own eyes how your clothing is made, because in Amsterdam West you’ll find the store, showroom and production atelier of the brand in the same building. Next to the fact that New Optimist clothing is made locally, they also work in the most social and circular way possible. Support local craftsmanship and shop your new outfit at New Optimist!

With Roua Atelier she welcomes you to her atelier in Amsterdam West, where she teaches with great enthusiasm about natural and more ecological dyes such as indigo. During the workshop you’ll learn how to dye with the Japanese dyeing technique Shibori and use the natural dyes such as indigo, rosemary, teas, flowers and food waste, such as avocado pits and peels. In addition, Roua also creates collections with natural dyes for established brands!
Environmentally friendlier and locally made cleaning products
Cleaning products that are made in a more ecological and local way in Amsterdam West: Boavista Circular makes it possible. The brand was founded in 2021 and has been making cleaning products that convert waste into valuable raw materials. Think of handmade and 100% natural soap, bamboo brushes and sponges made from waste from the ocean. The soaps by Boavista Circular are all handmade in Amsterdam and with their office in Amsterdam West, this supply chain is super short! How cool is it that your soap is made in our capital? Not all products are made locally, because they also work with social and ethical collaborations with local artisans in Brazil and Vietnam.
