On Thursday 13 August, OPEN FOOTWEAR makes its Hamburg premiere at FABRIC – Future Fashion Lab. Founded by shoe designer Juraj Šuška, who brings more than 25 years of experience, OPEN FOOTWEAR is an open-source research project that rethinks how shoes are made, combining digital fabrication, local production and freely available, open-source designs.
This compact “Clean Hands” workshop is all about the know-how. Over two hours, participants get an introduction to material selection, design, digital tools, and the gluing and sewing techniques behind a pair of shoes. It’s a hands-on look at the tools, materials and methods that make made-to-order footwear possible, a counterpoint to mass production and overproduction.
The session is open to everyone, whether you already like to make things yourself or are simply curious about how a shoe comes together. Places are limited and registration is required.
