Handmade Craft, Met in Person
THE ARTISAN AFFAIR returns for its second edition, turning the elegant Mozartsäle in Hamburg’s Logenhaus into a curated sales fair for outstanding craft and applied art. The fair is curated by ELBWOOD, The Hanseatic Penmaker, and is the private initiative of Hamburg craftsman Frank Pressentin, who makes fine writing instruments himself.
What sets the fair apart is the direct encounter. In many cases the exhibitors design and make their pieces themselves, so visitors meet the makers in person. The selection focuses on handmade work produced in Germany or Europe following traditional craft principles, and industrial products or mass produced goods from overseas are not part of the show. At the first edition, around 40 selected exhibitors from across Germany presented writing instruments, jewellery, leather goods, interior objects, glass and textile art.
Visitors can hold the objects, feel the materials and see every detail up close. Many pieces can be bought directly on site, while others can be ordered as commissions. In short Artisan Talks in the middle of the hall, makers share personal insights into their philosophy, techniques and everyday workshop life.
