State of Fashion – Crafts class (9 – 15 years): Working with Patches; Appliquéing with Vanessa Oostijen

Appliquéing is a craft technique in which patches of different fabrics are arranged on a background of fabric, then secured with small stitches. In this workshop, you will sit at a table full of colourful patches and threads with which you will create your own appliqué work. What about your personal initials on a garment, or immortalising a self-made image on fabric?

Vanessa Oostijen is a writer and has a great love for crafts and textiles. She also engages in commissioned work: articles for Volkskrant Magazine, illustrations and textile works. She shares the fun and joy of making things herself with young people in the workshops she gives at the SoHo House in Amsterdam and Rijksmuseum Twente, among others.
