State of Fashion – Crafts class (9 – 15 years): Working with Patches; Appliquéing with Vanessa Oostijen

Appliquéing is a craft tec­h­nique in which pat­c­hes of dif­fe­rent fabrics are arran­ged on a bac­k­gro­und of fabric, then secu­red with small stit­c­hes. In this wor­k­shop, you will sit at a table full of colo­ur­ful pat­c­hes and thre­ads with which you will cre­ate your own appliqué work. What abo­ut your per­so­nal ini­ti­als on a gar­ment, or immor­ta­li­sing a self-made ima­ge on fabric?

Vane­ssa Oos­ti­jen is a wri­ter and has a gre­at love for craf­ts and texti­les. She also enga­ges in com­mi­ssi­oned work: arti­cles for Vol­ks­krant Maga­zi­ne, illus­tra­ti­ons and texti­le wor­ks. She sha­res the fun and joy of making thin­gs her­self with young people in the wor­k­shops she gives at the SoHo House in Ams­ter­dam and Rij­k­smu­se­um Twen­te, among others.
