WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
wunderwerk’s production mainly takes place in the EU, which ensures high environmental and labour standards as well as short transport routes.
In cashmere production in Inner Mongolia, the entire supply chain is kept local, from fibre extraction to production, in order to secure local jobs and ensure fairer working conditions. The relationship with suppliers is characterised by longevity and trust.
The company works with a manageable number of suppliers, which enables close cooperation and makes it easier to monitor quality and working conditions.
wunderwerk visits its suppliers regularly to maintain personal contact and ensure that fairer and safe working conditions prevail. In addition, care is taken to ensure that suppliers fulfil higher ethical standards, for example in the form of no mulesing in wool production or compliance with strict ecological and social criteria along the entire supply chain.
wunderwerk almost exclusively uses materials that are certified in accordance with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The brand is also a member of the International Association of the Natural Textile Industry (IVN) and complies with its IVN BEST standard, one of the strictest sustainability standards in the textile industry.
The products are manufactured to a high standard of craftsmanship. The brand mainly works with a limited number of suppliers to ensure quality and transparency along the value chain.
wunderwerk regularly supports charity projects and donates 5 euros to selected organisations for every item sold.
MATERIALS
- Organic cotton (GOTS-certified)
- TENCEL™ Modal
- TENCEL™ Lyocell
- Organic virgin wool (kbT, mulesing-free)
- Cashmere
wunderwerk focuses on natural materials. The use of GOTS-certified and regenerative fibres such as TENCEL™ Modal shows that the brand specifically uses alternatives with a lower ecological footprint, while avoiding problematic materials such as petroleum-based fabrics.

PACKAGING
wunderwerk uses recycled cardboard boxes – some of which are reused – as well as compostable polybags made from cellulose or PLA for packaging within the supply chain and e‑commerce. Most garments are rolled and tied with an organic cotton band directly from the factory, which is reused for shipping. This approach minimises plastic waste and reduces the need for new packaging materials.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
In jeans production, wunderwerk uses only 3 – 9 litres of water per pair of trousers, compared to 90 – 160 litres in conventional production.
The used effect of jeans is achieved by environmentally friendlier methods such as oxygen bleaching, mechanical handwork, laser or stone-wash.
wunderwerk completely avoids the use of chemicals that can be highly hazardous to water and health. Oxygen-based chemicals, which are more environmentally friendly, are favoured in production.
Most of the materials used are GOTS-certified, which guarantees strict environmental and social standards along the entire supply chain.
wunderwerk also complies with the IVN BEST standards, which set even stricter requirements than GOTS.
No petroleum-based materials such as polyester, acrylic or polyurethane are used to prevent the release of microplastics during use or disposal.
wunderwerk uses innovative and more environmentally friendly dyeing techniques, including the special ‘mal tinto’ cold dyeing process. This colours garments as a whole and requires less energy and chemicals. The dyes comply with the GOTS positive list, which only authorises harmless substances.
Bleaching is realised using airbrush techniques, ozone, oxygen or mechanical processes.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
wunderwerk places great importance on using mono-materials, which improves recyclability.
There is currently no formal take-back system, but the brand accepts returned wunderwerk items and decides whether to donate or recycle them.
An online platform will soon be launched where discounted single pieces, repaired garments, and slightly stained items will be offered for sale.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS
The focus is on creating long-lasting products through high-quality materials and craftsmanship, thereby reducing waste. In addition, wunderwerk offers a repair service for denim.

- Organic virgin wool from the EU (from certified organic animal husbandry (kbT))
- Cashmere from Inner Mongolia
The organic virgin wool that wunderwerk uses is GOTS-certified, comes from controlled organic animal husbandry (kbT) and is completely mulesing-free.
The cashmere wool is obtained in a local, more sustainable production chain in Inner Mongolia, where the animals are gently combed out.
wunderwerk consistently refrains from mulesing sheep and any other painful practices.
The company only uses animal materials that fulfil its high standards of animal welfare and sustainability.
wunderwerk also offers a wide selection of vegan fashion that is completely free of animal ingredients.

SLOW FASHION PROCESSES
