Sustainable garments made in Barcelona for lovers of the sea

All the products that BONITO offers are manufactured under the rules and principles of fair trade.

All the manufacturing, dyeing and printing of its products is carried out in local workshops in Barcelona, thus being able to personally supervise each and every stage of the process, and to have all the guarantees that its products are produced in compliance with all labour regulations.

Also, the cotton is ethically produced in Peru, in a family business, which has the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification, which not only guarantees the traceability of the organic cotton they use, but also their standard of fair treatment of each person involved in the production chain.

In addition, BONITO has a social project called Socialito, which helps young people in complex family situations, and with few economic resources, to enjoy the sea. Giving them access to sailing, windsurfing and surfing courses so that they can discover these sports and all that they entail. So 5% of BONITO’s income goes to pay for these courses.

BONITO uses organic cotton from Peru, which is sustainably grown according to international standards and is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) certified.

Most of BONITO’s products are made using the PIMA cotton variety, recognised worldwide for its quality. But in addition to the very high quality of this cotton, and all the functional benefits this brings (softness, durability, etc.), it has other advantages. This cotton is grown using non-genetically modified seeds. Crop fields are rotated to allow them to regenerate. Its cultivation consumes less water than other cottons. And no chemicals or pesticides are used to care for it.

In addition, as every small gesture in favour of the environment adds up, they try to pay attention to all details that may contribute to the good health of the planet, so all buttons on their garments are made of corozo, a natural material extracted from the fruit of the Corozo palm tree, and YKK zips comply with Oeko-Tex Standard 100 class I standards.

Finally, the printing of the T‑shirt designs is done with water-based inks, which are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified. Their pigment dyes are also Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, but they are aware that there is room for improvement. That is why BONITO is always reviewing and improving their processes, and they have been testing with 100% natural dyes, and although the results obtained have not been the desired ones, they keep on trying.

At COSH! we are big fans of mono-material garments because they are easy to recycle. In the case of BONITO, most of its garments are made only with organic cotton, an easily sortable and recyclable fabric.
