HEDONE’s ambition is to fill all positions within the company with at-risk youth in the next five years. For this, the brand will organise workshops, mentoring and other community activities to engage and train the adolescents. Through the programme, the brand aims to train the young people so that they can build their own businesses in the future.
HEDONE also has an broader educational mission in mind. Through their actions, collection and workshops, the brand also wants to educate people about the consequences of recreational drug use.
In addition to their own social commitment, HEDONE also works with ethical suppliers. The manufacturers are members of the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF). This is an independent organisation that monitors working and social conditions at producers. Thanks to the leader status those HEDONE suppliers have, you can be sure that the clothes are made in safe and ethical conditions, and that the workers receive fair wages.
The clothes are printed in a small production workshop in the Netherlands. The playful and colourful designs are hand-printed onto the clothes there. HEDONE works closely with the atelier to ensure that high quality and social standards are met.
HEDONE clothing is mostly made of organic cotton. This means that the cotton is produced without the use of harmful chemicals. To ensure this, HEDONE works with suppliers that comply with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certificate. This certificate checks the entire production process for the use of chemicals and social conditions. You can recognise these clothes by the GOTS label, with T‑shirts containing a minimum of 95% organic cotton and hoodies made of a minimum of 85% organic cotton. A small proportion of recycled polyester is also used in the jumpers.
HEDONE works with a Dutch partner to print the unique designs on the clothes. Here, the designs are manually printed on the clothes using the screenprint process. The studio uses water-based inks for this, which have a much smaller environmental impact that plastisol inks, for example.
Finally, the HEDONE collection also has the OEKO-Tex Standard 100 certificate. This certificate guarantees that no chemicals are present in the final product. So the clothes are completely safe to wear!
Clothes that consist of a mono-material are easier to recycle, i.e. the garment consists of only one material. So jumpers and T‑shirts made of 100% cotton are circular because they can be recycled after use.
In principle, organic cotton is even biodegradable, however, this does not apply to the HEDONE collection as it also contains chemical inks and dyes.
The HEDONE collection and prints are designed in Rotterdam. The clothes are produced by a partner with production workshops in Bangladesh and China, after which the designs are printed in the print studio in the Netherlands. So the garments do travel a long distance to get to you.
To reduce their environmental impact, HEDONE’s production partner does offset all their CO2 emissions. The company offsets emissions from production and all transport to the Netherlands. HEDONE may have a long supply chain, but this way it is still CO2 neutral!
HEDONE uses no animal materials in their collection and is therefore completely vegan. In fact, the brand is PETA approved vegan! (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)
HEDONE makes streetwear with a strong social mission. The brand not only makes ethical clothing, but also helps Rotterdam youths avoid the drug milieu.
The clothing collection consists of basics with fun prints, for men and women. The T‑shirts, jumpers, track suits and sweatpants are available in different colours, always printed with the HEDONE logo and colourful designs.
HEDONE is transparent because they disclosed to COSH! all production partners. The brand also provides a lot of information about their own organisation and operations through its website.
