Love is shown across people’s relationships, right? Then, Suite13 LAB’s story has to start from the people involved in it! Maria and Alexia decided to work with just a few suppliers who manufacture their clothes in India, Turkey, Portugal or Catalonia. With all of them, Suite13 LAB’s founders keep a strong relationship, travelling to meet them and checking the production on-site. 

When it comes to their designs, we can be pressured it’s all made in their office in Majorca, on the gems of Baleares Islands. 

The abundance of production sites within Europe gives us more certainty regarding the working conditions those workers face every day, because these manufacturers are liable to European legislation regarding working rights.

At COSH! we want to provide you with the most up-to-date information. Hence, we dived into their product pages to check the materials used by Suite13 LAB. Let’s unwrap the lists!

One of the main materials used is organic cotton GOTS certified, along with linen, TENCEL™ Lyocell, Bemberg™ cupro by Asahi Kasei, ECOVERO™ viscose, and modal.

The animal materials included in their collection are alpaca baby, merino wool, and cashmere. Their sustainability page specifies that their wool is certified by Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), and we happily welcome this because it guarantees that farmers respect the animals’ weelbeing.

The off note? They still use in small quantities Recycled PES – that is, polyester – whose sustainability still has some cons. To enhance durability and elasticity, some garments include elastane, another synthetic fiber. 

Moreover, it is important to take a look at the materials used in the packaging when we purchase something new, why so? Packaging and delivery methods deeply affect brands’ sustainability. On the matter, Suite13 LAB decided to use paper seals packaging made by Rajapack and Rovi bags made of 70% recycled plastic, instead of normal polybags. Good for you, better for the environment!

Buying sustainably is a better option, but what happens when you discard your clothes? To make your choices truly the best for the environment, you should consider how brands value and approach circularity in their collections.

In this sense, Suite13 LAB’s strategy glows! They have a gender-free collection, where oversized jackets, shirts, and pants can be easily swapped between you, your partner and friends, thanks to the comfy designs and nice patterns and colours!

Did you know that circularity starts at the design stage? Well, if you wish to have a clothing piece suitable for multiple occasions, try Suite13 LAB’s multipurpose dress! Their Instagram page explains how to style it in many different ways, one dress for all your moods. 

Moreover, although some of their garments are materials-blended, they try using as many natural fibres as possible to enhance their recyclability. In fact, monomaterials clothes are the best option but when this isn’t doable, a mix of natural fibres is a good alternative.

Think global, act local! – In this sense, Suite13 LAB does its best to apply the slogan by keeping most of its supply chain within Europe, including Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Italy as their manufacturing locations; nonetheless, part of the collection is still made in India, making the supply chain’s extension longer than it could be. 

The positive aspect here is that the brand is well aware of the necessity to be as green as possible in their processes; therefore, their office in Majorca opted for the following solutions: a green energy provider – Holaluz – certified by the National Energy Commission, and another one named U Energy, which powers their office with renewable energy, which does not generate CO2 emissions. Great huh?

The brand reports it’s certified by Responsible Wool Standard, which means the animal-based used in their collections, merino wool, alpaca baby, and cashmere, are outsourced from farmers who respect the animals’ well-being.

Well, on their garment tags, you’ll find the garment’s story, from the very beginning – where its raw materials come from – to the moment it arrives in stores. On the product page on the website itself, you can see the clothes’ composition and where it was manufactured. It’s pretty amazing, right?
