Working conditions & living wage
Namaki produces within the European Union, in Italy and France, both countries fall under strict labour regulations.
Namaki is a small, family-run brand based in the Drôme, a French region known for its cluster of organic cosmetics companies, and it works with a limited number of manufacturing partners.
The brand states that its raw materials are natural and come from organic farming, free from pesticides, GMOs and ionising treatment, and that its products are certified under Cosmos Organic by an independent certification body. However, it does not publish information on where these raw ingredients are sourced or grown, such as countries of origin or suppliers.
The packing of Namaki’s products is carried out by an ESAT, a French sheltered workshop that provides employment for people with disabilities, which the brand describes as an important part of its social commitment.
Ingredients
Namaki’s face paint carries the COSMOS ORGANIC label (Cosmébio), with roughly 99.9% of ingredients of natural origin and about 21% from organic farming. The COSMOS standard sets requirements for ingredient selection, manufacturing processes, packaging and labelling, which are verified by an independent certification body.
The list does not reflect the entire range:
- Oryza Sativa (Rice) Powder (organic): plant-based powder that gives a soft, silky texture and absorbs excess moisture.
- Glycerin (organic-derived): natural humectant that keeps the formula supple and gentle on skin.
- Zea Mays (Corn) Starch (organic): natural absorbent that improves texture and feel.
- Glyceryl Oleate Citrate: plant-derived emulsifier that binds the formula together.
- Microcrystalline Cellulose & Cellulose Gum: plant-fibre texturisers and thickeners.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: lightweight coconut-derived emollient that softens without greasiness.
- Glyceryl Caprylate: plant-based ingredient that conditions and helps preserve the formula.
- Pentylene Glycol: humectant that also supports preservation.
- P‑Anisic Acid: naturally-occurring mild preservative.
- Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract: botanical extract with soothing, protective properties.
- Tocopherol (Vitamin E): natural antioxidant that protects the formula from oxidation.
- Mica & Silica: mineral ingredients that add shimmer and improve wear.
- Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891): mineral white pigment and opacifier, used in its classic (non-nano) form, which the brand states poses no health risk.
- Iron Oxides & Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide (CI 77491÷77492÷77499÷77510): mineral pigments for colour.
- Carmine (CI 75470): a red pigment obtained from the cochineal insect (see Animal section).
The water-based nail polishes are the only products in the range that are not organic-certified. Namaki states these polishes are free from parabens, formaldehyde, phthalates, toluene, camphor and nanoparticles, and that their phenoxyethanol content stays below 1%, the safety threshold set by the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS). The polishes peel off like a sticker, so no chemical remover is needed.
Packaging
- Namaki packs its products in potentially recyclable cardboard boxes that are FSC- and PEFC-certified, with printing done in France.
The COSMOS certification also covers packaging, meaning containers and secondary packaging are assessed against the standard’s environmental criteria. - In e‑commerce parcels, the cushioning is made from cornstarch loose-fill, which the brand describes as potentially biodegradable and compostable, as part of a zero-plastic approach to its parcels.
Water usage & chemicals
Namaki’s use of COSMOS-certified organic ingredients helps limit water pollution, as the standard restricts many controversial and persistent chemicals.
According to the brand, its organic raw materials are grown without pesticides.
The brand highlights that it uses natural, non-nano pigments and, in the nail polishes, a solvent-free water base.
Namaki does not currently operate a refill or take-back service for its containers.
Distance & complexity of the supply chain
- Italy
- France
- Namaki’s HQ is located in the Drôme region of south-eastern France.
Namaki keeps a relatively short and simple supply chain, working with a small number of European partners.
Transportation
- Transportation within the supply chain is not disclosed.
- E‑commerce orders are prepared at Namaki’s own workshop in the Drôme. The shipping method and carriers are not specified.
- Carmine: a red pigment sourced from the cochineal insect.
Carmine is the only ingredient of animal origin in the range and is used in some products only. The brand does not share any animal welfare standards for the sourcing of carmine.
Namaki states it is steadily expanding its vegan offering, particularly among its newer, non-face-paint products.
According to the brand, none of Namaki’s products or raw materials are tested on animals, in line with the EU ban on animal testing for cosmetics in force since 2013.
Product design
Namaki designs make-up as creative play for children aged 3 and up (and, as the brand puts it, up to 99). The range covers face paint kits, paint sticks, water-based peelable nail polish, eyeshadow palettes, glitter powder, hair mascara, lip balm, kids’ tattoos and matching accessories, plus themed sets for occasions such as carnival, Halloween and superheroes.
The products are hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested to suit sensitive young skin. All products comply with EU cosmetics regulations, and some also meet the EU toy safety standard (EN 71−1÷2÷3).
Namaki offers free online make-up tutorials.
Transparency on product
Each product page lists a full INCI ingredient list and flags which ingredients are organically grown. Country of manufacture is shared at a general level (Italy for face paint, France for nail polish).
Transparency on processes
Namaki is clear about its manufacturing set-up and certifications, and it addresses common concerns (titanium dioxide, phenoxyethanol, carmine) openly on its website.
The brand does not disclose where individual raw materials are grown or sourced, so specific purchases cannot be traced.
