PRODUCTION LOCATIONS
- Bonn, Germany
WORKING CONDITIONS & WAGES
Siebenberge Manufaktur produces exclusively in the Siebengebirge near Bonn (Germany). Because production takes place in its own studio, high labour and safety standards are in place. This also means short transport routes and close control over every production step.
All bags are made by hand and every piece is unique.
The materials come from local partners such as Kunstmuseum Bonn, Theater Ansbach and Franz Aachen Zelte und Planen GmbH, with whom the label maintains personal contact.
As the founders Gesine Berg and Christina Wachendorff run the workshop themselves, there are no external supply chains.
MATERIALS
- Advertising banners
- Art exhibition banners (PVC)
- Truck tarpaulins
- Edge strip material with the label’s own motifs
- Offcuts from tent and tarpaulin manufacturers
- Old or discarded fabrics
- Fastenings, straps, metal rings (new materials)
- By being reused, these materials are given a second life. This reduces waste and resource consumption, giving them a lower environmental impact than newly produced fabrics.
PACKAGING
- No packaging material is generated within the supply chain.
- Siebenberge packs its products in paper and rice paper.
WATER USE & CHEMICALS
As the bags are made from reused materials such as truck tarpaulins and advertising banners, very little additional water, dye or chemicals are used in production.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
Siebenberge’s products are made from a range of reused materials such as truck tarpaulins, advertising banners and art exhibition banners. These materials are mostly blended fabrics or composites made from synthetic fibres, which makes the products difficult to recycle at the end of their life cycle. Even so, choosing to give these materials a second life is a more sustainable and resource-efficient option, as it avoids waste and keeps existing resources in use.
No take-back scheme for old bags is offered.
The bags are durable and, thanks to their sturdy construction, repairable.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODEL
Siebenberge offers a repair service on request, supporting the longer use of existing products. The label also follows an upcycling approach, keeping resources in circulation.
