Iah

Behind the Iah brand is Sonia, a young woman who, after leaving two degrees, decided to become self-employed to undertake this small life project. 

Sonia works together with her colleague and seamstress Yadira. Yadira is passionate about the natural, the simple and the beautiful. Yadira cares about design, art and fashion, and together they create unique and creative pieces with their own sewing machines in Valencia. 

Yadira learned to sew, embroider and knit by hand from a very young age, but it wasn’t until 10 years later that she started making dresses for her and her best friend’s graduation ceremonies; from then on she couldn’t stop. For 10 more years, she kept her professional career and dressmaking in tandem, until finally, after meeting Iah Brand, she decided to make dressmaking her main job.

Iah garments are made with certified organic cotton, avoiding the use of toxic substances such as petrochemical pesticides, fertilisers and insecticides, respecting the earth and saving water.

For the production of organic cotton, non-transgenic seeds are used, meaning that they have not been genetically modified, and by being free of toxic residues, the garment is more respectful of your skin, being softer and more breathable.

In addition, organic cotton benefits everyone: from the farmer, to the designer and manufacturer, to the consumer, as they are not exposed to the inhalation of highly toxic products. 

Some Iah products are highly recyclable. This is because they are mono-material, i.e. they are made of 100% of one type of fibre, as is the case with 100% cotton garments.

However, some garments contain a small percentage of elastane, a fibre that is used to give greater elasticity and comfort to the garments. This elastane mixed with cotton makes it difficult to recycle garments. 

Lastly, at Iah they take environmental impact into account, and for this reason they do not waste any fabric scraps. Leftover fabrics are kept to create new products.

Iah has a very short production line!

All the garments are made locally in Valencia. In addition, all their suppliers are national, and in particular, their fabric suppliers are also from Valencia. 

Iah uses cotton for all its clothes, so you won’t find any clothes made from animal materials such as wool or leather – good news for animal lovers! 

Iah manufactures in small quantities and in limited numbers. In addition, they design and make all their garments locally, and with the best possible materials, in order to offer a higher quality and durability of the garments. 

Their creative and colourful designs are made in such a way that you can combine their clothes with an infinite number of garments and styles. You can combine Iah’s clothes with a pair of trainers to go to a skatepark or to go to an event with some nice shoes.

Iah is a transparent brand!

COSH! was able to talk to the founder of the brand, and they provided us with information about where they make their products, the names of their suppliers and even showed us their certificates. They also publicly disclose the names of their collaborators on their website.
