Fukuroshiki bags are designed by Andrea Manzano, a designer with extensive experience in the world of fashion, able to design a bag that favours the current lifestyle, versatile and adaptable.
The bags are made in Spain, specifically in a workshop in Malaga. However, they also carry out part of the confection in Madrid, in the sewing workshop Ellas lo Bordan. A sewing workshop with an impact, which offers job opportunities to women in vulnerable situations.
Fukuroshiki uses recycled leather to make its bags. A number of waste products are generated in the workshops where leather is processed, among them the so-called “rejects”, which are like leather shavings, and which represent about 20% of the waste from this industry.
This waste cannot be reused as such and ends up in landfill, either accumulated or incinerated, with its subsequent environmental and social impact. However, it can be recycled and turned into new leather sheets as your circular economy supplier does with several nearby leather workshops in Spain, turning waste into a useful, durable and quality material.
Thanks to its recycling and regeneration, the environmental impact of around 2,000,000 kg of this waste per year is avoided. Each Fukuroshiki allows us to recycle around 2 kg.
The recycled leather obtained has the same look, feel and smell as natural leather. This is because it is obtained using the same process used in tanneries, It is produced using the same machinery and methods as the original leather, with the difference that the Fukuroshiki supplier and the material are OEKO-TEX Leather Standard and GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified, which demonstrates their commitment to sustainability and determines responsible and environmentally friendly industrial management.
The entire manufacturing process involves the use of large quantities of water. For this reason, the factory Fukuroshiki works with has facilities continuously being innovated and developed, with a closed-circle production, to exercise control over the waste generated and environmental protection. In addition, it also has its own water treatment plant, thanks to which it reuses approximately 80% of the water it uses.
Another of Fukuroshiki’s standard materials is organic cotton from a German supplier with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification.
Fukuroshiki’s bags are made from various materials, but all are separately recyclable: recycled leather, organic cotton, recycled plastic buttons and even Zamak hardware and fittings.
At the moment, Fukuroshiki does not have any recycling actions in place, but they have considered the option of creating a project in the future. They want to create synergies with material recycling companies, or even with their suppliers and garment workshop, to separate and relocate the materials for recycling when the product has reached the end of its life
In Fukuroshiki, they are committed to local and proximity businesses. On the one hand, there is the workshop located in Malaga, where only women work.
In addition, their suppliers are from Alicante, Bizkaia and Madrid. Outside Spain they work with a German sustainable fabrics company.
Fukuroshiki uses recycled leather from cowhide waste that cannot be reused as such and ends up in landfill. However, they can be recycled and turned into new leather sheets, thus avoiding more waste in our landfills and contributing to the reduction of the environmental impact.
Although the origin is animal, Fukuroshiki wants to emphasise that it comes from waste from the leather industry. To this end, they have the GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certificate, which ensures that it is a residual product.
Fukuroshiki offers a 10-year warranty. Giving this guarantee means that they are very confident in the quality of their products.
In addition, they are unique, versatile and luxurious bags. They adapt to all people and each bag can be worn in seven different way, so that you can adapt it and use it for different occasions and in different parts of the day.
Undoubtedly a versatile bag that will accompany you everywhere.
