Ecuadorian-Chinese entrepreneur Daniel Chong studied at the University of Palermo (Argentina), where he specialized in design and communication. Based in Madrid, he is the creative director of his brand, and his collections are handmade by national artisans.
He currently has three main workshops: the one in Lavapiés in Madrid, where they select the fabrics and combinations of materials, and two other workshops in Elche and Pamplona, where several women sew all his pieces with great care. Consonance is fundamental in their work teams to guarantee the essence and identity of their pieces.
Daniel Chong’s collections are made with organic, recycled and sustainable materials, which contributes to protecting the environment.
All their products are made with recycled cotton upholstery fabrics or fabrics obtained from recycled PET bottles for waterproof items and some pieces of vegetable-tanned cowhide.
Starting from these materials, the brand offers the possibility of combining them as desired in their atelier, from where they make all the combinations that are then made in their workshops.
In 2023, Daniel Chong’s production emitted over 100,000 tons of CO2, a figure which has been more than offset by their determined actions. By doubling the amount of CO2 compensated through supporting forest carbon projects, Daniel Chong contributes to the restoration and preservation of forests. These ecologically significant projects contribute to disadvantaged communities’ socio-economic development by enhancing local ecosystems and livelihoods through tree planting. These exemplary measures have earned Daniel Chong recognition as a Carbon-Negative company, highlighting its commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.
They use some fabrics made from recycled garments, from which they extract the cotton fibre again, thus closing the cycle of a garment.
In this way, they avoid creating excess textile waste, which reduces the burden on landfills and incinerators. Fortunately, this also reduces dependence on virgin raw materials, chemicals, water, energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
The brand’s collections are crafted in Spain in workshops in Pamplona and Elche, thus offering local employment opportunities to artisans with extensive experience in the sector. The fabrics are also entirely manufactured in Spain.
Daniel Chong uses vegan leather alternatives but also vegetable-tanned cowhides.
Vegetable-tanned cowhides are considered a more sustainable alternative to traditionally tanned leather, as it does not use the skin of animals specifically bred for their hides.
Furthermore, vegetable tanning requires fewer chemicals and is less environmentally harmful.
Daniel Chong’s pieces can be combined in infinite ways in terms of shape, size and colour so that you can use them in many different ways.
Daniel Chong’s use of recycled materials, like threads from plastic bottles, boosts the sturdiness of their backpacks and bags. This material is entirely recycled and eco-friendly, and it also makes the fabrics last longer, so your bag can keep up with you for years.
Thanks to localised production, Daniel Chong’s production and supply chain is fully transparent.
All designs are made in workshops in Elche and Pamplona (Spain). In addition, Daniel Chong also shares information about the materials he uses for the creation of his pieces.
