The time is approaching again! Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week (DSFW) is coming up. DSFW is an annual event that aims to raise awareness about the impact of the fashion industry on the environment and promote sustainable alternatives. During DSFW from 5 to 11 October, you can visit all kinds of cool events, such as fashion shows, lectures and workshops.
Overwhelmed by clothes
During DSFW 2023, COSH! will organise various activities in Rotterdam. In cooperation with the Municipality of Rotterdam and The Swapshop, we want to ‘flood’ consumers with information and inspiration in a positive way.
On Friday afternoon, a playful guerrilla marketing campaign will be performed on Rotterdam’s fast fashion streets. From 16:00, a large textile ball made from discarded clothes from Rotterdam’s second-hand ReShare store will roll through the city as an ‘art object’.
With the big guerrilla event, we draw attention to the huge garment waste mountains worldwide, such as in Chile and Kenya. In some places, the textile waste mountain is as high as a four-storey building and even flows into rivers. Did you know that as much as 30% of all the textile waste found in Dundora (Kenya) is plastic (Source: Clean up Kenya)? So this clothing cannot possibly be taken up by nature and has a devastating impact on the environment and the oceans. Click here to read more about the textile waste issue in Kenya.
We also raise awareness about overconsumption. Did you know that nowadays people buy more clothes but they’re worn less long? According to EU research, Europeans buy an average of 26 kg of clothes per person every year, while 11 kg per person per year is discarded. This has a huge impact on the environment. The mission of COSH! is to help you shop sustainably, but at least as important is to treat clothes sustainably.
Where to be and when?
The COSH! guerrilla marketing event will take place at three different locations in Rotterdam, being Lijnbaan, Schouwburgplein and Koopgoot. All three are busy shopping locations where many fast-fashion shops are located, and the action is timed to coincide with Rotterdam’s weekly busy shopping evening.
On Friday 6 October, don’t be overwhelmed by the large number of fast-fashion shops in Rotterdam, but be surprised by the rolling textile ball, which moves through the city like an art object. And learn more about the polluting fashion industry!

COSH! booth at the DSFW Experience Center
Besides the guerrilla action, COSH! will also have a booth at the DSFW Experience Center at Lijnbaan 150 during Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week from 5 – 11 October. Here, you can learn more about how to make conscious choices when buying clothes.
