From clothing that grows along to surprise boxes and secondhand: Here you can shop more consciously for your little ones.
We all want the best for our children. We want them to grow up happy, to explore the world, to marvel, to play, and to be truly themselves. And we want to leave them a world worth discovering.
Sometimes a small step is enough: ride a bike more often, plant some flowers and enjoy the bees, bring a reusable bag, use a thermos instead of disposable cups, repair a small tear in clothing, buy secondhand instead of new. Small choices that still make a difference.
Children have a very special superpower: they remind us what really matters. Their skin is delicate and sensitive. They deserve soft fabrics, preferably without chemicals or harmful substances. And their feet? They want to explore the world in shoes that truly fit and don’t pinch. So when we shop for the little ones, it’s really the perfect moment to pause and reflect. Our kidswear guide invites you to browse, discover, and get inspired. Have fun!
CURATED SECONDHAND BOXES
High-quality secondhand children’s clothing without hours of scrolling through online platforms? Loribox’s concept is simple: choose the desired size (50 to 164) and style online, and receive a curated surprise box. Each item is checked and measured beforehand to ensure quality and fit. If you prefer to browse, Loribox also offers sets or individual pieces put together by stylists – from jackets to sleeping bags.
Additionally, if you have children’s clothes you no longer use, you can drop them off at Loribox. Clothing that can’t be resold goes to children in need or is recycled, so nothing ends up in the trash.
INNOVATIVE SHOES WITH GREAT FIT
Shoes made from corn, algae, wood, or coffee grounds? At Coilex in Munich’s Maxvorstadt, conventional shoe design is consistently challenged. The concept store of shoe designer Sebastian Thies offers a special selection of more sustainable shoes for both adults and children.
For little feet eager to explore the world, the concept is especially exciting: excellent fit, carefully chosen materials, and shoes that truly perform. Visit the store in Munich or shop online.
Berlin’s FIRST SECONDHAND STORE
NochMall is Berlin’s first department store dedicated entirely to the principle of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The selection is huge, and a visit is especially worthwhile for kids: since children outgrow everything at record speed, Die NochMall is the perfect destination. Discover great items at fair prices and give things a second life.
While you’re there, you can also take your children’s favorite pieces to the Repair Café for repairs instead of throwing them away. Die NochMall shows that sustainable shopping and having fun are not mutually exclusive.
CHILDREN’S CLOTHING AND NATURAL TOYS
Since 2012, Purzel-Baum in Flingern has been the go-to store for more sustainable children’s products in Düsseldorf. The focus is on high-quality natural textiles in sizes from preemie up to 176. In addition to everyday clothing, rainwear, and children’s shoes, you’ll find carefully selected wooden toys, dolls, and cuddly animals. The great thing is that all textiles are produced according to Fairtrade principles and checked for toxin-free manufacturing.
You can also rent baby carriers and wraps, and if you want to try zero-waste diapering, you can borrow a trial kit with cloth diaper sets. Personalized advice is available in-store or by phone.
HANDMADE CLOTHES THAT GROW ALONG
Clothing for kids without gender labels? That’s what you’ll find at KAYA. The Berlin-based label was founded in 2016 by Ashley Jones, who handsews each piece to order, using only deadstock fabrics or innovative materials from Germany. Leftover materials are transformed into unique patchwork creations.
For children and teens, there’s the YOUNG Collection in sizes roughly 130 to 160 cm. The standout feature is the relaxed oversized cut, allowing the pieces to grow with the child. Buy less, wear longer! And if you’re in the mood for a matching look, KAYA also offers clothing for adults.
SecondHand CHILDREN’S BOUTIQUE
What began in 1998 with the children’s clothes of founder Cordula is now continued by her daughter Simone. On 400 m² in Hassels, Hänsel und Gretel offers everything from cozy baby clothes to cool outfits for teenagers, as well as shoes, toys, and books. Since every item is checked beforehand, you can be sure that you’ll only find high quality pieces. And if you can’t make it to Hassels, the shop is also available online.
Let’s leave our children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren a world where they can marvel and grow. Because with every small decision we make today, we shape the world of tomorrow just a little bit more.
