Josué spent years as a tapicero, an upholsterer, watching good fabric get thrown away in the trade. That frustration is where Arpillera started. Together with his partner Rosa, he began reworking discarded burlap coffee sacks into something people would actually want to carry.
The workshop, tucked among orange groves in Benifairó de les Valls near València, turns Fair Trade coffee sacking into bags, totes and baskets, each one carrying the faded stamps and stencils of the sack it came from. No two look quite alike. The range also includes organic linen and canvas bags, cushion covers, and a made-to-order tote for anyone who wants their own design. Cotton lining and leather handles round out the construction, built to hold up rather than just look the part.
There’s no shop floor to visit here: Arpillera works from the atelier and ships everything through its online store, with free delivery on orders over €60 within Spain. Custom and small wholesale orders (gifting, promotional totes, made-to-order runs for businesses) are welcome by direct email.
