Located in Düsseldorf’s city centre lies a culinary delight that’s been tantalising taste buds since its inception — the Sattgrün restaurant. Known as Germany’s first all-vegan restaurant chain, Sattgrün has carved a niche for itself with its commitment to cruelty-free, vegan dining. It serves up to a thousand guests daily across five locations and now, thanks to its delivery service, even at home.
Its founder, Peter Zodrow strives to promote a vegan lifestyle without the guilt-tripping. His mission was simple: to whip up delicious meals that leave people craving more.
In 2006, with a dream in his heart and the support of friends and family, Zodrow opened the first Sattgrün at Graf-Adolf-Platz in Düsseldorf. At the time, vegetarianism was barely mainstream, and veganism was almost unheard of. Today, Düsseldorf boasts five Sattgrün eateries.
Sattgrün stands out for its culinary ethos – a celebration of fresh, plant-based ingredients crafted into daily homemade dishes that span the globe. From Soy Stroganoff and Thai curry to Italian pasta, each dish is infused with Sattgrün’s unique flair. The menu is entirely vegan, offering a guilt-free feast that’s free from cholesterol, lactose, and GMOs, but rich in the natural flavours of select vegetables, fresh herbs, and intriguing meat alternatives.
With its three buffet lines, Sattgrün invites diners to mix and match according to their taste, encouraging the exploration of new flavours. It’s a place that attracts a diverse crowd – teenagers, business professionals, celebrities, and seniors alike, all lining up to create their perfect plate.
Behind the scenes, Zodrow, along with a dedicated team of 150 people, works tirelessly to ensure every visit is a delight and to keep Sattgrün evolving. At Sattgrün it’s about eating differently and making a positive impact through vegan dining.
