Looking for a first outfit for a newborn, or clothes small enough for a premature baby, something to get the kids through fall without getting cold or a pair of barefoot shoes? This is where the range really shines. Most textiles carry the GOTS or IVN BEST label. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) requires at least 70% certified organic fibres, plus environmental and social criteria across the production chain. IVN BEST goes further and requires 100% certified organic natural fibres. Wool, wool-silk and boiled wool from labels such as Disana, Hirsch Natur, Reiff, Alkena, Cosilana and Joha sit alongside cotton pieces from Leela Cotton and Walkiddy. Certification varies per product, so check the label. Sizes run from preemie to 176, and grown-ups can also pick up wool underwear, wrist warmers, and gloves.
Beyond clothing, the shelves hold crawling and first-walker shoes in vegetable-tanned leather and wellies made with natural rubber. The shop also stocks everything for a newborn’s first weeks, from swaddling blankets and cot mattresses to natural rubber dummies. The toys are just as carefully chosen: classic wooden toys for children up to primary school age, dolls, cuddly toys and small gifts for the next birthday party.
The shop is built with families in mind. A changing table, a play corner and a big nursing chair mean a visit with a baby in tow is no problem. Can’t make it in? Advice is also available by phone. Purzel-Baum is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00 (closed Mondays). Pop by Birkenstraße 84 and let your little one practise a somersault in wool.
