On Sunday, October 13th, BOAS is organizing a unique Sashiko workshop in their brand-new store at Kalverstraat 163, Amsterdam! Twice on this day, you will have the chance to learn the basics of Sashiko and Boro, Japanese techniques for ‘visible mending’, taught by denim upcycler Petra van der Bend of DenimDutchie.
BOAS saves denim from the incinerator or landfill and donates 90% of its profits to save lives. They offer the most beautiful vintage and upcycled denim, with a mission: ‘Save Jeans. Save Lives.’
What will you do? During this workshop, you will learn how to make small straight stitches using the Sashiko embroidery technique to create a denim collage. You will make a small artwork that can later be used as a patch on your own jeans. No experience is necessary; just an interest in handcrafting is enough!

- What to bring? Your own jeans with a small hole, or practice on one of our torn jeans.
Meaning of the techniques:
- Sashiko: ‘Small stitches’, a Japanese embroidery technique for visible mending.
- Boro: The repair of worn-out garments with small patches, where the repair is meant to be visible. It tells the story of care and reuse of clothing.
