Create your unique shashiko jeans or jacket for free with BOAS – Afternoon session

On Sun­day, Octo­ber 13^th, BOAS is orga­ni­zing a unique Sashi­ko wor­k­shop in the­ir brand-new sto­re at Kal­ver­stra­at 163, Ams­ter­dam! Twi­ce on this day, you will have the chan­ce to learn the basics of Sashi­ko and Boro, Japa­ne­se tec­h­niqu­es for ​‘visi­ble men­ding’, taug­ht by denim upcy­cler Petra van der Bend of DenimDutchie.

BOAS saves denim from the inci­ne­ra­tor or lan­d­fill and dona­tes 90% of its pro­fits to save lives. They offer the most beauti­ful vin­ta­ge and upcy­cled denim, with a missi­on: ​‘Save Jeans. Save Lives.’

What will you do? During this wor­k­shop, you will learn how to make small stra­ig­ht stit­c­hes using the Sashi­ko embro­idery tec­h­nique to cre­ate a denim col­la­ge. You will make a small artwork that can later be used as a pat­ch on your own jeans. No expe­ri­en­ce is nece­ssary; just an inte­rest in han­d­craf­ting is enough!

• What to bring? Your own jeans with a small hole, or prac­ti­ce on one of our torn jeans.

Meaning of the techniques:

• Sashi­ko: ​‘Small stit­c­hes’, a Japa­ne­se embro­idery tec­h­nique for visi­ble mending.
• Boro: The repa­ir of worn-out gar­ments with small pat­c­hes, whe­re the repa­ir is meant to be visi­ble. It tel­ls the story of care and reuse of clothing.
