PRODUCTION LOCATIONS
- Portugal
- Local Dutch companies for printing or embroidery work
WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
Veld produces exclusively in Portugal. In addition, individual tasks such as printing or embroidery are carried out by local Dutch partners. The brand thus focuses on countries with high labour and environmental standards, which facilitates transparency and fairer conditions.
The entire collection is made by hand, giving each item of clothing a slow fashion character and supporting a long service life. Veld itself does not have its own production facilities, but works closely with partner factories. The brand emphasises direct contact and ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions. The personal exchange with production partners is emphasised and is reflected in annual visits to Portugal and more frequent meetings with local Dutch partners.
The production partner in Portugal is OCS-certified (Organic Content Standard), which means that the proportion of organically produced materials in the products is independently verified and certified along the supply chain.
In addition to social projects, Veld is also committed to ecological initiatives: These include collaborations with non-profit organisations, CO₂ compensation, the use of biodegradable packaging and climate-neutral shipping.
In terms of brand communication, Veld favours inclusivity. Campaigns show real people without retouching or digital post-processing. In this way, the brand consciously positions itself against idealised images of beauty and underlines an open, diverse claim.
MATERIALS
- Organic cotton
- Tencel
Veld uses only 100% organic cotton and plant-based, non-toxic dyes in its collection. Find out more about organic cotton here.
PACKAGING
- For e‑commerce, Veld communicates that orders are sent in biodegradable shipping bags that dissolve in hot water, are non-toxic and free from PP, PE, PS and PVC. It also emphasises climate-neutral shipping, which aims to reduce the ecological footprint of online retail.
- Within the supply chain, the garments are shipped in 100% recycled plastic bags.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
Veld emphasises that the entire collection is made from 100% organic cotton. This avoids the use of synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilisers in cultivation, which reduces both water consumption and the impact on soil and water. Nevertheless, even when produced as organic quality, cotton remains a water-intensive fibre.
Veld uses only plant-based, non-toxic and organic dyes for colouring instead of synthetic dyes. This minimises the release of harmful substances into the environment and reduces health risks for workers and end consumers.
The brand mainly uses water-based colours for prints. Only one product has a puff print, for which no completely plastic-free alternative has yet been found.
As Veld works exclusively with natural fibres, there is no risk of microplastics being released when the products are washed – a clear advantage over synthetic textiles.
Information on water consumption in production is not currently available.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
According to the information available, Veld relies exclusively on mono-materials, making the products generally easier to recycle.
Veld does not currently offer a take-back service for used garments. Instead, the brand keeps prototypes, samples and old garments with the aim of developing an upcycling concept in the future. In addition, old collections from the time before the rebranding are donated to people in need – most recently during the forest fires in Los Angeles, for example.
The use of recycled, upcycled or deadstock materials is not yet part of the collections, which are based exclusively on new natural fibres. Although this makes the garments easier to recycle, they do not utilise existing textile resources.
In terms of ease of repair, Veld communicates that the garments are handmade and designed to last. This high-quality workmanship indirectly supports longer use, but there are no concrete repair or take-back concepts yet.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS
Veld does not offer a repair service, nor is there a take-back system. Other circular business models such as rental models, resale or repair concepts are also not offered. The company’s circular orientation is currently limited to the use of mono-materials and high-quality workmanship, which is intended to support a long service life for the products.
DISTANCE & COMPLEXITY OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN
- Portugal
- Veld’s HQ is located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
TRANSPORTATION
It is known that the ‘climate-neutral’ option is always selected when shipping with UPS. For local and international direct purchases, Veld uses the PostNL service.
In addition, the brand also sells its products via a Finnish online marketplace, where orders are always delivered by FedEx Express.
Veld does not use any animal fibres.
PRODUCT DESIGN
Veld offers travel essentials and sportswear aimed at adults.
When it comes to the collections, the brand emphasises timeless, simple styles that are compatible with different occasions – from tennis matches to city trips.
SLOW FASHION PROCESSES
Veld does not release a fixed number of collections per year, but relies exclusively on a drop system. Production is always done in small quantities and re-production only takes place on the basis of demand.
The focus is instead on a slower fashion approach with a timeless collection that is not strongly characterised by seasonality, but instead impresses with handmade pieces with a longer lifespan.
The products are handmade in small series, but not customised to order or made to measure.
TRANSPARENCY ON PRODUCT
The material and country of production are stated on the product pages. There is also information on the cut and weight of the fabric, references to ethical production in Europe and stylistic details such as prints or logos. There is also size information (including a size chart) and model details (body size and size worn) to help with the fit.
In terms of traceability, however, the information remains general: customers are informed that a product was manufactured in Portugal, but cannot trace in which specific factory or under what exact conditions their own garment was made. Product-specific traceability is not offered.
TRANSPARENCY ON PROCESSES
Veld only provides general information about its processes and supply chains. The website mentions that the products are handmade in Portugal and Europe in general, with the claim of fairer wages and more ethical working conditions. However, specific details about the individual suppliers or factories are not published.
Information on production and the supply chain can be found on general pages. On the product pages themselves, only the material and the country of production are specified. Product-specific traceability is not offered.
