All products are made by Anne and Jeroen in Amsterdam. The leather they use comes from Europe (mostly Italy) and is also tanned here. Thanks to European labor regulations, that process will be done in an ethical way. Moreover, there will be no long distances for transport. Studio Roem therefore has a short supply chain.
Inspiration from nature can be seen in every product. The leather goods are made of high quality durable cow leather. They treat that leather with a lot of respect, because sustainability and animal welfare are very important to them.
For this reason they are efficient with their resources and waste as little material as possible. From large pieces of leather they make bags and from the parts that remain they make small products such as wallets, cable holders and key rings.
Studio Roem uses both traditional (chrome) tanned leather and natural/vegetal tanned leather. Naturally tanned leather contains no chromium and is colored in a natural way. Anne and Jeroen told COSH! that they are using more and more naturally tanned leather. Something that COSH! can only applaud, since chromium is harmful to human health and the environment.
Studio Roem’s products basically consist of 100% leather. They do not use linings in the bags. An exception are the closures such as buttons, rings or magnets made of brass and the zippers which, depending on the product, are made of plastic or metal.
Studio Roem’s products are easy to recycle because they are made almost entirely of leather. It is therefore nice that the bags have no lining! Also, Studio Roem’s production causes virtually no waste. They try to utilize every piece of leather.
Moreover, Studio Roem guarantees you “everlasting glory!”. Each bag has a 100-year warranty, if your bag breaks within that time, you can have it repaired. A testament to the circular quality and service the brand offers!

Studio Roem’s products are made from cow leather and are therefore not vegan, however leather can be considered a sustainable material because it is natural, sturdy and can last a long time. The leather that Studio Roem uses is a by-product of the European meat and dairy industry, so in principle no animals are killed specifically for these bags.
Have you noticed Studio Roem’s logo yet? It is shaped like the leather turtle. This turtle is the only turtle with a leather-like skin instead of a shell. Like the founders of Studio Roem, it loves to travel and symbolizes the brand’s unique handmade products. Studio Roem aims to help the endangered turtle by spreading awareness and supporting The Leatherback Trust, a non-profit organization in Costa Rica dedicated to saving the leatherback turtle. A great cause!
Studio Roem’s leather goods are timeless. Each bag is unique and is made to last for years. They do not go out of style and only become more beautiful over time. The handmade nature gives the products a unique look. There is impressive craftsmanship in these bags!
In addition, they are made-to-order so that the design can be tailored to your needs. They also have a fixed collection, which does not change with the seasons.
In terms of transparency, there is still room for improvement; we don’t know exactly where the leather comes from. But at COSH! Are we aware that supply chains in the leather industry are difficult to trace.
