Skandinavisk is certified as a B Corporation (Benefit Corporation). B corp is a global organization that encourages companies to do good for people and the environment. Brands that have the B corp certificate are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions and products on our humanity, community and planet.
To calculate the carbon impact of their next product collection, Skandinavisk is working with the City of Copenhagen and their “Sustainable Baseline” program to look at ways to reduce or offset their footprint.
Skandinavisk does not use palm oil, soy, kerosene, beeswax, plastic drums or cellophane packaging in their new collection. In addition, the products also contain no parabens, phthalates or silicones and consist of more than 90% natural ingredients. For example, the natural body wash and lotion are made in Denmark with 91% natural ingredients, including 43% organically certified products. The brand also adds local spring water to their body wash, conditioners, soap and hand cream.
The packaging is FSC-certified, sourced from managed Swedish forests and colored with natural dyes. The candle packaging is made of partially recycled and dishwasher safe glass produced in Europe. You can therefore reuse the glass to insert a new candle.
The packaging of personal care products contain recycled bioplastic from sustainably managed sugarcane plantations. Skandinavisk also thinks about the details: the black cap is made from recycled polypropylene in EU.
Skandinavisk continues the trend in the store as well. The shelves on which the products are placed in the store are made from FSC-certified wood. The installations are modular so they can be reused.
Sustainable candles
For their candle wax, the brand uses ‘rapeseed wax’. This product is produced on a large scale in the UK and partly also in other European countries. As a result, the wax has to travel a shorter distance than ecological soy wax that is often produced in North America. A more sustainable option for the Danish company Skandinavisk.
Rapeseed wax comes from the oil harvested from the plant. The properties of the rapeseed wax allow for the easy addition of color. This eliminates the need to use harmful dyes to color the candles.
The candles, body wash, body lotion and hand cream from the New Generation collection are independently vegan certified so you can be sure that there are no animal ingredients in the products. Similarly, the beeswax in their original hand creams has now been replaced with a plant-based alternative, making the new collection completely vegan.
However, the products do not have a Leaping Bunny Cruelty Free certificate or PETA label so we at COSH! cannot be sure that the products or raw materials have not been tested on animals.
