WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
Rainkiss states that they work with a tier 1 manufacturer who pays above living wages and pays overtime. This manufacturer is also a SMETA member. Rainkiss states that they will continue to monitor all tier 2 suppliers to ensure further wage related improvements are made.
The brand’s Sustainability Report states that regular independent audits are conducted at both manufacturing sites to ensure safer, more ethical, and fairer working conditions. They also ensure that code of conducts are signed.
MATERIALS
- Certified recycled polyester
Rainkiss uses 100% GRS (Global Recycling Standard) certified recycled polyester for their ponchos. They are therefore produced without virgin petroleum, reducing the greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional polyester production. This material is also waterproof and lightweight, making it ideal for rainy days!
Recycled polyester is not the perfect solution for improving sustainability in the fashion industry. It still has an environmental impact as it sheds microplastics when washed, and is hard to recycle at the end of its lifespan. That said, these products are unlikely to be washed, so the potential for microplastic pollution is greatly reduced.
Rainkiss has also introduced new recycled buttons and draw strings, and states that they are continuing to evolve their material exploration.
Their ponchos are currently coated with PU waterproofing layer, and Rainkiss states that they are experimenting with alternative waterproofing solutions.
PACKAGING
Rainkiss states that they have removed all plastic shipping materials for all wholesale and consumer shipments. Their orders are shipped in recyclable packaging, printed using low-impact dyes.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
Rainkiss works with an Oeko-tex certified tier 1 manufacturer. Additionally, this manufacturer recycles waste water to cool and heat the factory.
Rainkiss states that their products are PFC free, and they are working towards using 100% recycled or low impact dyes.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
The vast majority of Rainkiss’ products are monomaterials, increasing the likelihood that they can be recycled. Rainkiss does not currently offer a return scheme, but they state that they aim to develop an internal recycling program. This would allow consumers to return unwanted ponchos in exchange for a discount. Rainkiss states that they aim to work alongside upcycling brands to transform these products into a new collection.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS
Rainkiss states that they are working to improve the circularity of their business model. They are researching ways to integrate easy to follow cutting patterns/lines inside every poncho, with the aim to provide clear instructions to transform any broken, unused poncho into a new product.

TRANSPARENCY ON PRODUCT
Rainkiss discloses their tier 1 supplier in their Sustainability Report, so you can know where your product was produced. Additionally, on each product page the material used is stated. Since Rainkiss uses GRS certified recycled polyester, you can be assured that each poncho actually contains the recycled content it claims to have.
TRANSPARENCY ON PROCESSES

The brand does not disclose what tier 2 and 3 suppliers are in their supply chain, or where they are located.
