WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
Ocean Born collaborates with A Puntadas, a social workshop in Alicante, Spain. This workshop focuses on textile manufacturing while creating employment opportunities for people at risk of social exclusion. By working with A Puntadas, Ocean Born contributes to a positive social impact, supporting job creation and fair working conditions.
With the Olivia Madle collection, Ocean Born takes its mission beyond fashion. 100% of profits from this collection support efforts to end cetacean captivity and protect their crucial role in marine ecosystems. Whales and dolphins help maintain ocean health, and without them, both marine life and human survival are at risk. This collection funds habitat protection and the fight against captivity, ensuring a future where oceans thrive.

Since 2021, Ocean Born has been working to incorporate more recycled fabrics into their collections. As a small business, this transition comes with challenges, but the goal is to use recycled materials across all collections by 2026. All recycled fabrics used are certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).
Ocean Born aims to avoid synthetic materials and prioritises natural fibres. Their ponchos are made from 100% cotton, making them potentially recyclable at the end of their lifecycle.
PACKAGING
Ocean Born does not disclose what packaging materials they use.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
Ocean Born has made a turn around from using conventional cotton. Now all their cotton is organic cotton GOTS certified, which reduces chemical use and water consumption.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
Ocean Born integrates circular principles into its designs by using both monomaterials and recycled fabrics, each with its own impact on recyclability. Their 100% cotton ponchos are easier to recycle than blended fabrics, ensuring they have a second life at the end of their use. However, the brand does not yet offer a take-back or recycling programme for its garments.
For swimwear, Ocean Born chooses Carvico Vita, a fabric made from ECONYL® regenerated nylon (78% recycled polyamide, 22% elastane). This material is created from discarded fishing nets, industrial fabric scraps, and carpets, transforming waste into high-performance swimwear.
With the DEAD STOCK collection, Ocean Born takes a bold step towards waste reduction. Partnering with RECOVO, TEXTILAB, and RECUMADRID, the brand rescues unused fabrics that would otherwise end up in landfills. While upcycling prevents waste, it can also limit recyclability, as these fabrics are often mixed materials. Rather than a final solution, DEAD STOCK serves as a call to action, proving that discarded textiles can still have value.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS
Currently, Ocean Born does not offer repair services or modular designs for easy repairs, but its focus on high-quality materials and construction encourages longer garment lifespans. Looking ahead, further repair and take-back initiatives could strengthen the brand’s commitment to circular fashion.
