The washed linen collection is 100% made in Europe. With the flax being sourced from Belgium, France and The Netherlands. The yarns are spun in Italy and then woven and finished in Portugal.
All of Kalani’s production partners adhere to strict social standards, with all of them following the code of conduct of the ILO (International Labour Office) and European labour laws. On top of that, the Portuguese supplier is also GOTS- and Sedex certified, and has the ISO9001 standard. These labels show that the work conditions are regularly checked by several independent organisations.
The stone washed linen collection is made of 100% linen. Apart from that, Kalani also has a product range made with cotton.
Linen is a natural fibre made from flax. The flax is sourced from Belgium, France, and The Netherlands, and then processed into yarn by an Italian factory.
Flax is a strong plant, which is why it doesn’t require a lot of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Also in the production process no chemicals are needed, but the mechanical processing is very energy-intensive.
The products are shipped in recycled and recyclable cardboard boxes. The gaps inside the boxes are filled recycled paper twists. Duvet covers and pillowcases are packaged in a beautiful cotton bag, which you can re-used to store your sheets in your wardrobe, to protect your underwear or separate your shoes in a suitcase.
For each cotton product on the Kalani website, you can calculate how much energy, water and CO2 emissions you have saved by choosing organic cotton. A great way to immediately see your impact on the planet by shopping consciously. The Belgian brand also endeavours to extend these calculations to the new linen collection.
The linen duvet covers, pillowcases, tablecloths, and napkins are all made out of 100% linen fabric. A monomaterial, like 100% linen, is easier to recycle at the end-of-life phase. Pure monomaterial items can be returned to the cycle without mechanical recycling or chemical recycling.
The stone washed linen products have a short supply chain, because every step of the production process takes place in Europe. The flax comes from Belgium, France and The Netherlands, it then goes to Italy to be spun into yarns. These are then processed into table and bed linen by a Portuguese manufacturer.
All Kalani table clothes, napkins, bed covers and pillowcases have a ‘vegan approved’ certification. This way you can be sure to exclude all animal ingredients from your bath and bedroom.
Kalani is dedicated to work with fabrics woven at 300tc (300 thread count): this amount offers the best ratio of longevity to luxury products. To further ensure the highest quality of their products, Kalani also uses a mix of different blends of flax. This way the different qualities and fibre lengths are mixed into one soft, strong and durable fabric.
The linen is pre-washed with stones to make it more soft and smooth to the touch. This gives a distinctive look to the fabric, adding a touch of simple elegance to your bedroom. Another advantage is that it doesn’t need any ironing.
The stone washed linen bed linen is an ideal choice for its softness, look, breathability, excellent thermoregulation and durability. From a casual to a more sophisticated style, washed linen is a great choice for giving you a restful night’s sleep, in both summer and winter.
Kalani is transparent about their certifications, their suppliers and their overall costs. Through the pricing table on their website you get an overview of how much it costs to produce your soft luxury textiles. The brand also takes the ecological and social costs of its production into account.
