By making the HappySoaps themselves by hand in the Netherlands, the brand knows exactly what goes into the soaps. Only the best ingredients make it through the selection process. By controlling this selection process themselves, they know exactly how the products are put together and that the ingredient has been produced in a fair way. 

HappySoaps is Beauty Angel of the Plastic Soup Foundation. The Plastic Soup Foundation focuses on human health and improving the environment by fighting plastic waste. Thus, they run various campaigns to strike important pillars and raise awareness around plastic waste. As a Beauty Angel, the brand financially supports the Plastic Soup Foundation with an annual contribution. 

HappySoaps uses only natural ingredients. Each ingredient must meet these four citeria: 

1. the ingredient is 100% (micro)plastic free

2. the ingredient is deliberately produced and biodegradable

3. the ingredient must be vegan: completely plant-based

4. the ingredient must be completely free of palm oil

So all products are completely free of microplastics, palm oil and, in addition, SLS and parabens. So what does it contain? Some of the brand’s favorite ingredients that you will find in almost every HappySoaps product category are: aloe vera, lavender, shea butter, argan oil, melon, olive oil, cocoa butter, roses and quinoa.

HappySoaps products do not contain an ounce of plastic and they are proud of that! And rightly so, because by doing so they are helping the planet with a better environment and healthier (drinking) water. The brand packs all products in recycled cardboard and recyclable aluminum. No plastic is used in the production, storage and shipping of HappySoaps either! Even the products themselves contain no plastic. Truly 100% plastic-free. 

After using the HappySoaps products, the packaging can be reused. For example, for a new HappySoaps packaging. This saves water, energy, chemicals and (micro)plastics that would otherwise be used for new packaging. Top! 

Because production takes place in the Netherlands, no unnecessary trucks, planes or ships have to travel around the world to deliver your HappySoaps bar to your home. This unnecessary transport, and the CO2 emissions involved, is saved the planet. 

Moreover, producing the shampoo bar itself causes far less CO2 emissions than producing a traditional plastic shampoo bottle. The concentrated form of the bars also saves water and (plastic) waste. Because there is a lot of water in traditional shampoo, the bottles take up more space. This in turn means more plastic waste as well as more CO2 emissions, because more transportation is needed to transport the bottles. 

All of HappySoaps’ products are vegan and cruelty-free. While the products themselves are not tested on animals, the brand also does not use ingredients that have been tested on animals and does not engage other companies that do.

HappySoaps’ products last at least three times longer than traditional bottled products. This is because a traditional plastic shampoo bottle consists of 80% water, while HappySoaps’ shampoo bars contain 0% water and are highly concentrated. 

The brand is transparent about where production takes place, but not about where they get their ingredients. They do consider transparency about prices very important. That is why they explain very well what is in their bars and what is a reasonable price for them.
