PRODUCTION LOCATIONS
- Germany (studio in Baden-Württemberg and small factory in the region)
WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
bellaLEYK produces exclusively in Germany, in its own studio in Baden-Württemberg and in collaboration with a small manufacturer in the region. This local production enables the brand to set high social and ecological standards. At the same time, the short distances enable close cooperation and personal monitoring of working conditions. The direct contact ensures a transparent and trusting relationship, and regular visits are a matter of course due to the proximity.
The products are made by hand and to order, which avoids overproduction and gives each item of clothing an individual character. Customers can also choose personal adjustments such as trouser lengths or embroidery colours – embroidery takes place in the company’s own studio.
MATERIALS
- Organic cotton (kbA)
- Organic cotton
- Viscose
- Spandex
- Buffalo Horn
bellaLEYK uses high-quality, often ecologically certified organic cotton. Where possible, spandex is avoided or limited to a maximum of 3%. Read more about the benefits of organic cotton here.
PACKAGING
- bellaLEYK uses completely plastic-free packaging for e‑commerce: uncoated cardboard boxes and paper tape.
- There is little to no shipping within the supply chain. The reason for this is local production. These short distances eliminate the need for costly intermediate shipping, which reduces transport emissions and makes additional packaging superfluous.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
bellaLEYK primarily uses organic cotton from controlled organic cultivation, which significantly reduces water consumption and the use of harmful pesticides and chemicals compared to conventional cotton.
By largely dispensing with elastane (max. 3%), the release of microplastics during washing is minimised.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
When selecting materials, bellaLEYK pays attention to natural fibres that are as pure as possible. The clothing is predominantly made from (organic) cotton, sometimes with a maximum elastane content of 3%. This means that many products are mono-materials, which makes them easier to recycle.
bellaLEYK does not currently offer a take-back service for used clothing. Instead, the brand focuses on longevity – for example through customisation and high-quality workmanship.
However, the products are easy to repair. bellaLEYK offers a repair service via its seamstress in the studio or via its manufactory. This personalised aftercare supports the durability and circularity of the garments.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODEL
bellaLEYK offers a repair service that is carried out by its own seamstress in the studio or at the factory in Baden-Württemberg.
The focus is on longevity, individualised production and the repair service to extend the life cycle of the garments.
DISTANCE & COMPLEXITY OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN
- Baden-Württemberg, Germany
- The head office is located in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
The bellaLEYK supply chain is simple and straightforward, as all production steps take place locally in Baden-Württemberg.
TRANSPORTATION
- As bellaLEYK produces exclusively in Germany – in its own studio and in a nearby manufactory – transport within the supply chain is minimised. The fabrics are sourced directly and processed locally, which avoids unnecessary transport routes.
- Shipping to customers is CO₂-neutral via DHL GoGreen.
- Buffalo horn (for buttons)
bellaLEYK uses animal materials exclusively in the form of buffalo horn buttons, which are sourced from a German button retailer. The buffalo horn usually comes from the food industry as a by-product and is therefore a more resource-friendly alternative to plastic buttons.
PRODUCT DESIGN
bellaLEYK designs clothing exclusively for women. The collections consist of timeless individual pieces such as tops, trousers and dresses, each with an incorporated quote.
Individual adjustments can be made – for example to the length of the trousers or sleeves and the colour of the embroidery. This enables a certain degree of personalisation.
The styles are aimed at customers who value individuality, fit and durability.
SLOW FASHION PROCESSES
bellaLEYK does not follow a seasonal collection rhythm, but works with an ongoing, curated collection to which new designs are gradually added. The individual pieces belong thematically to the so-called POEM series, each of which contains a quote as a design and content element.
The brand produces according to the made-to-order principle – each item of clothing is only customised after it has been ordered.
Minor size adjustments are possible, for example to lengths or embroidery colours, which allows for individual customisation.
bellaLEYK does not take part in traditional sales campaigns, as the demand-orientated production means that there are no stock items and therefore no surpluses.
TRANSPARENCY ON PRODUCT
The bellaLEYK product pages provide very detailed information that enables a high level of transparency in terms of material origin and production. The material composition is stated, supplemented by the specific supplier including address and certificate number. Customers also receive information on care, the dimensions of a reference model and information on production. The production location is specified precisely, including the address. The delivery time is also clearly stated, as each item is manufactured individually to order. Labelling suppliers are also listed.
This comprehensive visualisation makes it possible to fully trace the supply chain of each garment – from the fabric source to production. As a result, bellaLEYK offers its customers an exceptionally high level of traceability and transparency.
TRANSPARENCY ON PROCESS
bellaLEYK offers comprehensive insights into its processes and the origin of the materials. It is particularly noteworthy that this information is not only provided on a general page, but directly on the respective product pages.
bellaLEYK communicates its values and working methods transparently via the website and directly in the context of the individual products.
Conclusion
bellaLEYK impresses with poetic fashion that is more sustainable, fairer and made to order. With local production in Germany, customised manufacturing and a transparent supply chain, the brand stands for decelerated and more responsible fashion.
