New Green Fashion Tours city – Hamburg, we are ready to discover your fair fashion treasures

There are many reasons to fall in love with Germany’s northernmost metropolis – for us, its vibrant and diverse fair fashion scene is one of them. Hamburg offers a variety of slow fashion & local design hotspots and we can’t wait to discover them together with you – as since the beginning of this year Hamburg is officially another Green Fashion Tours city!

Our new Green Fashion Tours Map Hamburg presents over 20 fair fashion & jewelry stores as well as ateliers who decided to join us in this adventure. We are excited to present these amazing projects and the inspiring entrepreneurs behind them to Hamburg citizens and tourists. On our tours and through our educational formats we create for the participants the opportunity to get to know more about the alternatives to conventional fashion.

Who is behind GFT Hamburg?

We are happy to welcome Sabine Paulsen and Lena Scherer to our team. Sabine is CSR & sustainability manager, an expert for social criteria in the entire supply chain, sustainable activities and textile standards. Lena is a photographer specialized in sustainable fashion brands and part of the Hamburg and Berlin fair fashion community.

First exclusive tour

On 20^th February we officially launched GFT Hamburg with an exclusive press tour. For those who can’t wait to join our first official public tour in May, here are some impressions from the press one and the shops we visited:

First stop: Werte Freunde

Janine Werth, founder of Werte Freunde, warmly welcomed us in her store and we could have easily spent the whole afternoon there. On 350 qm you find fair fashion and natural cosmetics in equal parts. ​“Cosmetics and fashion go pretty well together as both touch our skin. I wanted to create a place of encounter and exchange about all these products”. We were not surprised to hear that Janine gets loads of requests to open a store in other cities. No matter if you are looking for cosmetic treatment or your new favorite jacket, Werte freunde is worth a visit.

Second stop : Garment

Garment truly is one of the pioneers of Hamburgs Green Fashion Scene. Ullinca Schröder and Kathrin Müller founded the label 23 years ago. Located at Karoviertel since 19 years now, the store offers classy, timeless clothes made with love and designed to last. Ullinca showed us their atelier in the basement. With their design team they are working on the new collection which is produced at a small manufactory in Poland. So exciting to get a glimpse behind the scenes!

Third stop: Captain Svenson

“Feminism is a huge and important topic for me and actually one of the reasons why I founded Captain Svenson in 2018. Feminism and fashion are closely tied together”. Svenja Böhm loves to support small local labels. You can feel and see that she chooses each of the pieces in her little shop with care. You won’t leave this store without a great deal of inspiration and a smile on your face.

Last stop: Sole Rebels

Our last stop was Sole Rebels, a store selling handmade shoes from Ethiopia. Elias Assefa opened the store in 2018. ​“Before I decided to have the store in Germany I insisted on visiting the factory as I wanted to be sure that the shoes are produced under safe and fair working conditions. The sole of the shoes are made of old tires, one pair weighs less than 200 gramm. A small café at the store with fair trade lemonade and coffee invites you to stay a little while and get to know more about the label.
