Bringing silver to life: the renaissance of Mexican handmade jewellery
Mexico is a country known for its rich culture and tradition, and this is reflected in every piece of craftsmanship that is made. Mexican handcrafted jewellery is not just an accessory, it is a work of art that tells stories, ancestral techniques and the passion of its creators. Introducing Mina Palmera, a space dedicated to preserving and celebrating the work of four talented jewellery artisans.
In the heart of Taxco, Mexico, lies a silvery oasis of creativity and tradition. Behind each piece is a story, a legacy from the state of Guerrero and the passion of four master artisans: Don Pascual de León Avilés, Martha Massé, César Cuevas, and Stuart Alarcón.
Don Pascual is a master jeweller who has dedicated his life to keeping alive the tradition of Taxco silver jewellery. His collection “En Peligro de Extincion” rescues ancestral techniques and styles that once adorned Mexico’s most prominent figures, such as Frida Kahlo.
Martha Massé creates jewellery with a personal, artistic, and contemporary touch. Her collection “Luz y Sombra” (Light an shadow) explores Martha’s two identities, jewellery and drawing, using howlite representing light and shadow represented by obsidian. These elements along with 925 and 950 silver make the “Luz y Sombra” collection unique.
Originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco. César Cuevas finds his inspiration in the pre-Hispanic architecture of Mesoamerica. His collection “Talud-Tablero” reinterprets elements of the architectural style of the pyramids and other buildings into unique jewels that evoke the region’s glorious past.
Stuart Alarcón masterfully fuses artisanal techniques with a contemporary language. His “Lewitt” collection, inspired by architect Solomon “Sol” LeWitt who is known for his minimalism and conceptual art, demonstrates his ability to reinvent and modernise jewellery in his models without losing the essence of handmade craftsmanship.
Mina Palmera not only offers exceptional pieces with a focus on sustainability, but also invites us to learn about the history and talent of these four masters. By choosing Mina Palmera, you are not only acquiring a unique piece, but also contributing to the preservation of a priceless cultural legacy from one of the most incredible regions in the world.
