REST in Mortsel is Belgium’s very first creative reuse center. Imagine an inspiring second-hand shop for artists, crafters, students, teachers and other makers brimming with surprising, sustainable and affordable materials
But REST is more than a scrapstore. It is a wonderful craft centre where you can buy leftover materials by the bucketful, supplemented by carefully selected creative second-hand materials as well as ecologically newcomers such as paints, glues, paint markers and paper goods. Whether you’re into upcycling, visible mending, jewellery making, or just looking to experiment with more sustainable DIY projects, REST has something for every maker who cares about sustainability.
REST also offers memberships for individuals, schools and associations. Members enjoy discounts on all second-hand materials and workshops, and with a membership you also directly support the mission for more circular creativity.
In addition to selling secondhand supplies for crafting and art, from scrap fabric and pencils to atlases and old CDs, REST also organises workshops and kids’ camps focused on sustainable creativity. Popular sessions like kintsugi, sashiko, and visible mending are held regularly, with kits and materials available in-store. Some workshops are for adults, others for kids.
In the shop, you can also explore a carefully curated corner with upcycled creations by local makers: jewellery made from marbles or old cutlery, crocheted plants made from leftover wool, planners made from REDOPAPERS, pen bags made from REST fabric and other original finds.
REST is a cooperative enterprise: mission over margin. Their goal is to reduce waste, promote creativity, and build a circular culture through education and reuse.
