At Kaiserswerther Markt 47, in the historic centre of Kaiserswerth in northern Düsseldorf, LANA Düsseldorf has sold collections from the Aachen fashion label LANA since 2018. LANA was founded in 1987 by Anne Claßen-Kohnen and Hermann Kohnen. Put simply, LANA Düsseldorf is the own store of an Aachen family brand that has been making clothes from natural fibres since 1987.

It all started with a knitting machine in a basement. In the late eighties, children’s clothing was largely made of polyester, and the couple struggled to find anything in pure natural fibres for their three children. So they bought their own machine and started knitting, first a nappy cover, then more children’s pieces. Word spread among friends, the basement became a small shop, and over the years they added womenswear, which is now the core of the range. LANA is still a family business. The design team remains in Aachen, where it works closely with the pattern department and the in-house sample studio.

The store carries only the LANA women’s collection, with two new collections every year: blouses, trousers, jackets, dresses, coats, jumpers, skirts and shirts, plus nightwear and accessories. The brand works mostly with natural and cellulose fibres: organic cotton, mulesing-free organic wool, linen, hemp, TENCEL™ Lyocell and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose. Many pieces are also certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which sets rules not only for the organic share of the fibre but also for dyeing, finishing and working conditions at the processing sites. The brand states on its product pages which pieces this applies to. Elastane is used only in selected pieces and in small amounts, so the fabrics stay as close to single-material as possible. Production takes place in Europe and Turkey. Prices range from around 15 to 300 euros depending on the piece. The cuts lean classic rather than trend-driven, and the colours are often bold, a LANA signature since the early days.
