On Hermannstraße in Düsseldorf-Flingern, you’ll find the goldsmith studio ERDEN, where jewellery is made where it is sold. Since late 2024, master goldsmith Frieda Meyer has been handcrafting her own rings, earrings, necklaces, and ear cuffs in her Flingern-Nord shop, mainly from recycled gold and silver. The street around her is lined with small galleries and shops, and many people drop in spontaneously, look at the display cases and stay to chat about their next favourite piece.

Frieda Meyer has been working as a goldsmith for more than ten years. After a three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship, she passed her master craftsman’s exam and then gained experience at a Düsseldorf jeweller. To be free to realise her own ideas, she went on to found her own label. In her Flingern shop, she has found a place that suits her work: a neighbourhood where craft, art and small businesses sit side by side. She makes every piece by hand in her own workshop, from the first design to the final polish. Her jewellery is mostly unisex, combining classic goldsmithing with modern elements, often with details you only notice on a second look.

Her main materials are gold and silver, and she also works in platinum. She uses mostly recycled precious metals: old gold is melted down and reused. If you have old gold at home, you can talk to her about turning it into a new piece. Her precious metal supplier is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council. She also works with selected gemstones and, on request, with lab-grown diamonds. Now and then Frieda Meyer combines her pieces with surprising materials such as acrylic or wood offcuts. In the workshop, she relies on milder agents: for pickling, for example, she uses citric acid instead of sulphuric acid. Pieces are packed in small engraved metal boxes. Prices start at around 80 euros, and made-to-order pieces can cost considerably more depending on material and effort.

Alongside her own collections, ERDEN offers a repair service: she repairs, reworks, or resizes jewellery so favourite pieces can be worn again.
