According to Gingko, about 1 billion umbrellas are broken, lost, and improperly disposed of annually. Most umbrellas are produced in China and are often of very low quality. As a result, they are quickly discarded and create a mountain of waste.
Melanie, the founder of Marypup, stumbled across this problem a few years ago and decided to tackle this waste stream. Since then, she has given broken umbrellas a second life through unique rain ponchos, rain trousers and raincoats.
At Marypup in Brussels, you will find circular rainwear made from upcycled umbrellas for men, women and children. Marypup’s rainwear collection is also entirely made in Brussels. Read more about Marypup’s sustainability strives here.
